Salon JKU — Local services in Philadelphia

As an adopted Asian American female I never really had guidance on how to style and color Asian hair. I suddenly realized that maybe I was missing out on something for the last 27 years. So I went on the phila queens Facebook group and posted for Asian hair stylist recommendations for both cut and color and someone kindly recommended salon JKU to me and after looking at their Instagram and their stylists personal Instagram's I decided that this was the best salon for me given a lot of the stylist are of Asian descent. I got a full head balayage done by Memmi (@coloristmemmi) and haircut done by Chris Sotos. I cannot express enough how pleased I am with the results. PLEASE note this does not mean the salon is specialized in Asian hair only. I was the only Asian client in the salon yesterday. You definitely don’t HAVE to be Asian to come here lol I just really really wanted my hair done by someone of Asian descent since I’ve never tried that before. Anyway, Memmi did such a good job and was so pleasant to talk to while she was doing my hair she really is an interesting person with such a cool backstory. Same goes for Chris, who I had many things in common with. I cannot wait to return to the salon for my next cut and or color. I'm leaving this review because I am someone who often looks up places for reviews. I get full highlights with Seiko and it is always an AMAZING experience. Every time I leave the salon, I'm so so happy with the results. The salon itself is right on 15th and Walnut and not only is it super upscale/clean/modern, but it is a really relaxing atmosphere since it's quiet and they play instrumental music. The staff is super professional and welcoming and you can tell the attention to detail they put into everything.

As a blonde, I've had my fair share of visiting salons to try to get the color I was searching for. It wasn't until I started going to Seiko that I've left the salon 110% happy. Seiko is SO talented- she often goes to NYC and Japan to learn even more to best help her clients. She is so genuine and all she truly cares about is that her clients are happy. As a Grad student, I can only visit the salon so often because I'm balling on a budget- but Seiko makes it worthwhile every single time and I'm always leaving feeling so satisfied and happy.

Also, if you're looking for an updo this is the place. Cassidy did my hair for a gala and it was super quick and came out perfect. It also stayed in all night which was awesome.

Nonetheless, if you're looking for a salon (whether you are a blonde or not), I would def try out Salon JKU. You'll see how passionate the staff is and you'll quickly be satisfied with...

The best hair color service I’ve ever received in my entire life! As my experiences, I have really thick black hair which all the hairstylists I’ve had before really struggled with to get it dyed or bleached and unfortunately the results never came out as I wanted it to be. I’ve never been satisfied with any of my hair coloring done before until I met Seiko. Her skill is beyond awesome and I get amazed so much every single time she does my hair. I usually show her some pictures of hair color samples that I want on my hair beforehand and boom, I’ll see myself in a mirror with that exact color I was talking about! I still don’t understand how she does that with my hair but this is my first time experiencing the hair salon happiness that people are talking about! Their excellent work is also very efficient too! I had to move to another state but I still visit salon JKU whenever I have a chance to go back to Philadelphia for their beautiful work. I highly recommend this great...
