I typically never write negative reviews, but my experience at Suit Supply in Philadelphia was so frustrating that I felt compelled to share. Over a period of two months, it took about 6-7 visits just to get a custom suit for my wedding, and the entire process felt like a waste of time. I was met with a series of disrespectful and unprofessional interactions, primarily with Reginald.
From the beginning, Reginald suggested I get a regular suit off the shelf and have it tailored. Trusting his advice, I did just that. However, when I came in for the fitting, the suit was too tight, causing an X in my shirt. My fiancée had to point out that the suit didn’t fit correctly before Reginald reluctantly admitted it needed adjustments. It felt like he would have let me walk out with an ill-fitting suit if she hadn’t spoken up.
Throughout the process, Reginald’s customer service was lacking. He insulted me by calling me “particular” and blamed my posture for the suit not fitting. This was extremely insulting, as I have a perfect, straight posture and, of course, I want the suit to look good for my wedding. Blaming the customer for the suit not fitting properly is unprofessional and unacceptable. When the tailored suit didn’t work, he claimed he had recommended a custom suit from the start, which was untrue. His memory was faulty, and he constantly contradicted himself.
Even after switching to a custom suit, the experience did not improve. Reginald rushed through the process, provided minimal information, and seemed more interested in getting me out the door than ensuring I looked good for my wedding. He didn’t offer detailed options or advice for the custom suit, and I had to extract information from him at every step. For a suit costing almost $1000, this lack of attention to detail is unacceptable.
Moreover, when my fiancée suggested trying different ties or colors, Reginald dismissed her ideas outright, saying they wouldn’t look good. It’s not his wedding, and he should have been more open to our preferences instead of brushing off her suggestions.
Every time I visited Reginald for a fitting, I had to reiterate that I was getting married. I told him where the wedding was, showed him images of the venue, and explained our needs. Despite this, it was only on my fifth or sixth visit that he admitted he thought I was just attending a wedding and decided to “switch to wedding mode.” This blatant admission that he wasn’t putting in effort until he realized it was my wedding was infuriating. The same level of care and attention should be given to every customer, regardless of the event. From the start, I felt he had no intention of making me look good, treating it as a “buy and get out” situation. I had to keep asking questions and seeking guidance when I expected to be guided through the process.
In addition, his lack of organization was evident. Almost every time he provided a suit for me to try, he gave me a blue shirt with stripes to wear underneath. Despite repeatedly telling him I would wear a white shirt, he continued this oversight. Similarly, he kept giving me brown shoes when I planned to wear black. Multiple visits required me to ask for a different shirt and shoes, even though the white shirt and black shoes were available. His lack of attention to detail and competence made the experience feel like pulling teeth.
I wanted a refund but couldn’t cancel due to the proximity of my wedding. Luckily, on my last suit fitting, Reginald called out sick, and I was met with Dominick, who was so helpful and kind. He educated me on the suit fit, and I felt like he actually wanted me to look good. After about 7 visits, my suit ended up looking very good (unsurprisingly after so many visits), so I have to give Suit Supply credit for this. If you do choose to visit, I highly recommend working with Dominick for a...
Read moreSuch a very unfortunate experience with this store. About a month before my wedding, I stopped in to try on a few suits. I needed a basic slim fit black suit which they claimed they had plenty of sizes in stock. The first one I tried on was too large and baggy, and the 2nd was much too small. I asked if they had a size in between but the individual helping me assured me that they could alter the larger one to provide a perfect fit. After the alterations were marked, they had me pay upfront. Now with all the alterations the suit was quite a bit more than I anticipated but I was happy to pay knowing I would get a perfect fitting suit. As I was leaving, I reiterated that my wedding was in a little less than a month but they chuckled and said “don’t worry, it will be ready in time”. I received an email stating that my suit would be ready in a little over 2 weeks, which was fine because that left a week before my wedding. The date that the suit was supposed to be done by came and went and I thought I would give them 1 extra day since they were probably busy. The next day I called and asked about my suit, they claimed the suit was misplaced and put “into the wrong pile” and that the alterations haven’t started. I again, told them my wedding was the upcoming weekend and I needed a suit by then. They promised me it would be done by Thursday. I came in on Thursday to try on the suit. Once I put the suit on panic hit. The suit was somehow worse than when I tried it on the first time. I didn’t even need to say anything because as I walked out of the changing room, the individual helping me quickly left to go grab some other suits for me to try on. So, two days before my wedding they were having me start over from scratch. Apparently, the suit we started with was much too large to alter down and they didn’t have the smaller size in stock. So, in order to make a sale they tried to alter a suit rather than just tell me my size wasn’t currently available. After trying on a suit that was my correct size, they reached out to the King of Prussia store to rush order a black suit in that size. I had to then come back the day before my wedding. The suit obviously fit better but since I didn’t have time to alter the pants or jacket it was still an off the rack suit that wasn’t tailored (besides hemming the pant legs). Keep in mind I already paid quite a bit for the original tailoring. Through all this what bothered me the most, was I never once received a simple “we’re sorry”. As I read the other reviews, I can see that this is a common...
Read moreFirst of all, I was wrong about Suitsupply. I thought they only sold slim cut clothes for young dudes; but when I finally hauled my 73 year old self to their store, I found they had all kinds of cuts.
The staff was very friendly and helpful and in no time, I was able to find the simple black suit I was looking for. I've been buying suits for 50 years and the quality seemed high. During this process, I was ably assisted on different occasions by sales people Keith and Kree. They were both super attentive and made the experience a very pleasant one. There was no sales pressure at all and at no time did anyone in the shop try to upsell me. I was a bit embarrassed, however, because at times I couldn't figure out which guy was which. Keith and Kree both had the same fashionable braids, they looked and were built the same, and they dressed similarly.
In the end, it seems I'm not such a dope. Turns out they are brothers and are often mistaken for twins!
The only real hiccup occurred when I tried on my suit after alterations. I wasn't in a hurry but the tailors were fast - a one day turnaround. Still, I found myself wishing they had taken a little more time as they neglected to install the suspender buttons (which I watched Kree add to my order so this was no fault of his) and the trousers were too short as well. I took a walk for about 45 minutes and they fixed the problem, but really, at these prices, you would expect them to get it right the first time. I also wish the shop had the standard setup of a low pedestal with multiple mirrors that enable the customer to see the back and sides of the suit during fitting, not just the front. This has been such a basic element of men's tailoring for so long that I was unpleasantly surprised to find that Suitsupply had decided I didn't need it anymore. Inconvenient, and frankly, kinda dumb - especially in such an otherwise beautiful and efficient store.
So, not perfect, but very good. I would recommend the Suitsupply store in Center City to all guys - no matter your age - who are on the lookout for a good look.
Just don't expect to see your suit...
