My family moved to Philly a few years ago and we started looking for a church that aligned with our values in what a church should be. Unfortunately, a lot of churches we visited had a very consumerist approach to church where they assumed attendees were looking to be entertained or enlightened. We didn't really care for churches that wanted to put on a show for us. We were also not interested in attending a church that focused too much on defining who they were through a lengthy and detailed statement of beliefs.
We were glad to have stumbled upon Resurrection Church. They focus more on shared practices as opposed to dogma. You won't hear much, if any, "politics" from the pulpit or even being discussed by the pastors or congregation--not because they don't care or don't see how faith is relevant, but I think it's a healthy recognition that we should be captivated by the person of Jesus as opposed to some political figure or party.
Resurrection has a liturgical service. You can dress however you want--some people wear dress clothes every week, others wear t-shirts and shorts. Coffee and donuts after service every week to meet people. Highly recommend visiting if you're looking...
