Highly recommend, absolutely deserving of 5 stars, just as all the other reviews have reflected.
We are so appreciative and grateful for Dr. Fixler & assistant and the Happy Endings In-Home Pet Euthanasia team. Everyone I interacted with was professional, patient, compassionate, and efficient. The calm demeanor experienced immediately during the scheduling call, to the arrival/departure of Dr Fixler and assistant at our home, truly encouraged the same demeanor in us and put us at ease, which made the entire process so much more tolerable than we could have ever hoped for.
If any review is but 5 stars, it is evident that the Happy Endings team addresses issues and concerns swiftly.
This is my first experience with pet euthanasia, or "good death." It was most helpful to speak to our ER vet, primary vet, and friend vet to determine the balance between our pets prognosis and quality of life potential and our own personal hopes and wants. All shared similar opinions. Internet research and quality of life quizzes reinforced their sentiments. We were fortunate, as we only had one option due to our pets diagnostics/test results.
I dreaded the idea of transporting our sick pet, in a carrier that he hates, to a place that would likely cause significant discomfort, stress, and anxiety. No one wants that kind of trauma for their pet before a life-ending procedure. My pet deserves better.
So when ER mentioned in-home services, I felt more confident that I could help my beloved pet in his final moments. Happy Endings came highly recommended, and as I compared options via websites and Google reviews, Happy Endings had everything we were looking for and had the reviews/testimonials to back it up.
Visit their website. It is obvious they know what they are doing and know they are setting a high standard of care. Their Paw Print Series package was purfect for our needs and cost a fair $775. This included travel, exam, euthanasia, handling of our deceased pet, individual cremation, transportation to crematory, complimentary rainbow bridge poem with pet name and ink paw print, urn and engraving, and return delivery of the ashes.
We secured an appointment the same day between 3-5 p.m. which was what we hoped for. Arrival and presentation was professional, we completed payment, and Dr Fixler began the exam and reinforced what we already knew, giving us further validation in our decision to euthanize.
Dr Fixler communicated each step, asking for confirmation when we were ready to proceed. We were warned that the initial injection would be upsetting to our pet but would ultimately provide sedation to prepare for the second injection that delivered the euthanasia. The first injection kicked in immediately and took full effect within 2 minutes. As we were consoling our pet, Dr. Fixler shaved a part of our pet's leg to set up the catheter that would deliver the euthanasia medication. He confirmed when we were ready before administering the final medication.
We didn't feel the need to have a private moment with our pet prior to the administration of the euthanasia medication nor after, as we had prepared throughout the day. However, Dr. Fixler offered privacy throughout our visit, so if that is important to you, know that it is 100% available.
The assistant wrapped our pet in Happy Endings blankets and carefully handled his body to their company vehicle that looked professional and adequate to store deceased pets.
Dr Fixler collected his belongings without distractions, allowing us space to grieve. It was very much intentional and we appreciated it.
We feel blessed to have been able to give our pet a peaceful experience, which put us at peace too. Thank you...
Read moreI am overdue for leaving feedback on the caring and amazing staff at Happy Endings. There was almost nothing more stressful and heartbreaking than the decision to compassionately put our precious 18 year old toy poodle "Princessa" to sleep as she was deteriorating and our family knew that it was the time. When you love an animal with every ounce of your being for 18 years like a person, you also want that pet to not be in any pain. There is no decision that is harder than putting a pet down - especially layered on top of this Covid-19 pandemic. We didn't want it to happen in the cold of a vets office with us outside - especially now as we are all a bit sad these days. Princessa hated the vets office.
I made a few inquiries to Happy Endings via phone back in mid March to understand their updated at-home process (with great follow-up by his staff) and I also did my homework online and it was apparent that their reviews and feedback were consistently positive. When the day came for sending our apricot baby to heaven (ugh), Dr. Fixler and his assistant arrived in PPE (N95 masks and gowns) and my family was masked so we all felt safe. We laid a nice blanket out on the lush green grass in our backyard under a shady tree.
Dr. Fixler and his assistant Grace were in no rush whatsoever: They carefully explained and outlined, we were able to ask questions, we put some nice music on for Princessa (and us) and my wife and two daughters formed a circle of love around as he did his work with our baby cradled in my arms. They told us what to expect at each moment- and the process was as gentle and loving as we could have asked for. Our baby went to "sleep" - and there was no visible pain. We had all the time we wanted after to cry, say goodbye and reminisce over our family's memories from the time she was a puppy on forward.
You can't fake compassion and genuine heartfelt caring - and that is what you get with Happy Endings. They know what they are doing and they do it with heart. Dr. Fixler and his crew are not just going through the motions to make their money and leave - they move at your pace, they move at your speed and they genuinely care. That means that even though (for us) this was a heart-wrenching experience, it was also positive experience as we knew afterwards (even with so many tears) that we really did the humane and loving thing for our most beloved member of the family.
We cannot recommend Dr. Fixler and Happy Endings more highly - they are the best at what they do & have the procedures - medications - dosages. I believe there is an artistry to knowing the correct/ideal anesthesia and medications, so that there are no unwelcome surprises whatsoever - and that is where Dr. Fixler and his crew go the extra mile.
But what really takes them to a different level is the compassion they show to your pet and your family at a stressful time. They are #1 in their field locally - and we would not hesitate to use them again if needed. Hopefully it will be 18 years before we need them again, but I know others reading this will be in the best and most caring hands when and if you should need their services. Hugs to Dr. Fixler and his incredible team. Thank you for being there for us when we...
Read moreThere aren't any words I can use that would fully express my gratitude to Dr. Fixler and team for offering this wonderful service ❤️ my bubs Andy was diagnosed on Saturday with advanced Hemangiosarcomas and we were told he would have much longer with us even with surgery. We took him home and learn from some friends about an at home service so I searched and found happy endings. They quickly got back to me and i was able to arrange for them to come Tuesday night, which was wonderful since we were able to spend that weekend spoiling extra him and giving him best last days. They called me Tuesday morning just to check in on me and make sure i was doing ok and answer any questions. They came arount 8pm that evening and were extremely kind and compassionate, they had a wonderful calming energy about them that i know my dog felt, because he instantly warmed up to them, even more so than his usual frienldy self. They gave my partner and i the space to say our goodbyes and move forward when we were ready. Andy looked so at peace as he was going, i believe a big part of that was because we were in the comfort of our own home and we were able to hold him and hug him as he drifted off. They again gave us space to grieve and then left with him covered up. While it felt like an eternity Everything was about 30 minutes in total, and as painless as something like this could go. Everyone was empathetic and respectful throughout and even afterwards i was able to email them to ask for some of his fur back and they were able to do that for me. They were worth every penny, and i highly encourage everyone to go this route when it is time. The emergency vet i went to quoted us $500 without getting the ashes back, i ended up paying $820 at happy endings, but thats getting his ashes back in a beautiful oak urn (that matches his fur and has a place for a photo) and that is with the after hour fee included, so overall they were extremely reasonable in my opinion especially for this to be done at home. And while i know some people may like this saying im so appreciative that no one said he was "crossing over the rainbow bridge" which after the fact i find comforting, but during I prefer not to hear. While i wish no one ever had to use a service like this, i very highly recommended Happy Endings, because they really do live up...
