Not knowing anything about Pheonix, we chose to stay at the Hampton downtown. THE GOOD: Location, location, location. Right next door to the university. Many restaurants within 5-10 minute walking distance. Nice restaurants. Some upscale. Irish pubs. Japanese. Italian. Mexican. IHOP within few minute drive, 24/7. Very safe area. Extremely clean. You could eat off the sidewalks. Phoenix puts Texas cities to shame, sadly. Very well kept up. Room key card required to use elevator. No one can travel to any floor without a room key card. Very professional staff. They will assist you with room service, dining questions, etc. Easy check-in/out. No hidden fees or charges. We paid exactly what we expected. Hotel appearance is upscale. Approx 10 floors. We were on 2nd floor. No noise. Quiet. Room equipped with TV, refrigerator, coffee maker, clothes iron, hair dryer. Comfortable beds and pillows. Extra chair and desk plus two small ottomans. Upscale shower with sliding glass doors. Decent quality towels. Typical free toiletries. Overall room size was good. Not the biggest. Not the smallest. Closet with coat hangers. Ironing board. Air conditioning is typical of a hotel. We set temp at 67° to cool down room. Set fan to 'low' speed, which was much quieter. Good number of channel selections on TV. Free breakfast. Due to COVID, consisted of prepacked peeled hard boiled eggs, assorted muffins/bagels, cold cereal, fruit, fruit juices, bottled water, low fat milk, etc. No one counted what you took to eat. You have the choice of eating in their dining area adjacent to lobby, or use a carry box to take items to your room. Toaster and microwave in lobby. Also, wide selection of food/drinks for purchase. Soda, water, beer. Chips, candy bars. Microwaveable dishes. You have option to pay up front or charge to your room. THE BAD: Refrigerator froze everything. We were told no way to adjust temp. No microwave in room. Only in lobby. PARKING: Here is the straight poop. About $24 to park in city garage. But, each time you leave, you have to pay again. $37 valet parking per day at hotel. You can come and go any number of times per day. PARKING ON STREET: We parked on street. We usually found spots in front of hotel or within a minute's walk. PARKING is $3 for each 2 hours (between 8:00am and 10:00pm). PARKING is FREE from 10:00pm to 8:00am. From 8:00am to 4:00pm you can only pay for 2 hours at a time. From 4:00pm to 10:00pm you can pay for up to 6 hours at a time. No payment required after 10:00pm. You can pay by coin or credit card. The front desk will exchange $10 bills for a roll of quarters. We were told we could download an app, posted on the parking meters, which would allow us to pay for an extended period of time, instead of walking to meter and paying every 2 hours. We chose not to use the app. Overall, parking meters were by far the cheapest way to go. Streets are safe. The hotel staff vouched for the safety of street parking. THE UGLY: N/A CONCLUSION: We stayed 3 nights. Very nice. No issues. Enjoyable stay. What a beautiful city. The sheer cleanliness and maintenance of the downtown area and buildings was literally shocking. The news media does not do justice to this city whatsoever. Parking in city garage would have cost approx $96, or more if we used our vehicle. Valet parking would have cost approx $117. We spent about $30 using parking meters. Beautiful area. Conservative feel. Not rowdy or loud party atmosphere as compared to Austin. Safe. Highly recommended.

Not my first stay and always happy with this hotel, as usually everything is just excellent, especially service ! Staff is really dedicated and helpful , always with smile, always friendly and trying to help. Not many places have this atmosphere and it really makes a difference! Location is perfect just in city centre , few minutes walk to convention centre and next to ASU and Thunderbirds downtown campus. Rooms are nice and cosy, clean and spacious. Bathrooms are modern and have shower! Air conditioning is perhaps bit too noisy but you can turn it on when leaving room so it’s nice and chill when you come back especially on hot Arizona day. Blinds in the room are quite useful too ! Downstairs next to reception there is small convince shop and you can grab a free tea and coffee. Breakfast is free for all guests ! That’s not very common anymore but appreciate. It’s typical America breakfast, nothing extraordinary but cmon it’s free ! Bar downstairs also serves drinks and food in the evening. The main problem is the lack of parking. There is a valet parking with usually quite nice and friendly staff , but they are understaffed and it takes forever to get your car. My last visit they lost the car keys and couldn’t find them for over an hour almost causing me to miss my flight. I think it will be good for hotel to consider own parking lot with the hassle of using valet.

I was pretty disappointed in my stay at Hampton Inn Phoenix Downtown. First the upsides: Modern rooms, reasonably nice reception and eating area. Better than average free breakfast. Down sides. I don't know what was going on with housekeeping but there were toenails on the floor by the bed. It was pretty gross (I included a picture LOL). Also there were no cups for water or coffee cups which was a big bummer while trying to wake up in the morning. Then I found there was no hand soap for the sink or soap for the shower. Luckily there was shampoo so I could still wash up a bit. All of these oversights certainly made me concerned about what I COULDN'T see in the room. I sure hope the beds were actually clean!!! The front desk was somewhat lackluster in their response to my "concerns" about the quality of the room. That was also disappointing. I would stay there again, but I would hope they get their house keeping in order.

We picked this location because it was close to Walter Cronkite. We were going to take pictures of the Walter Cronkite building (campus) and the Tempe Dessert Financial Arena. This hotel from May 11th- May 13th was not our favorite. If you can avoid it, you will do better. Delivering your car to the valet people was annoying. There was not enough space for big trucks/SUVs. If you drive a tiny car, it is the only way it could work for you. On our second day in the afternoon, we went downstairs to buy some cold beverages from downstairs. We were able to buy a few perfectly cold items. So, we returned downstairs a second time, and we sadly had to deal with the most annoying front desk person ever. This girl, I think her 'nametag' said Sierra. The previous girl (curly hair, petite) was the best. But this second annoying girl was the worst. We asked to buy another cold 'Coke' can. And she said those are for members, but let me check in the system if you are a member! She goes to her computer and from there, I remember just observing her mediocre and tacky self. No people skills, zero management training, just an incredibly disrespectful individual. Then, the other girl trying to be more tactful and save the day suggested there was a grocery store close by and we drove just to be able to obtain 'cold beverages'. I asked my husband to buy a 12-pack of cokes, so the sweet and nice girl would not get in trouble due to this pathetic witch. I remember I arrived at the front desk and placed the 12 cans of Cokes on the front desk so she would notice what she did. Other customers saw our dissatisfaction with this tacky girl 'Sierra'. I said to the nice girl, please give these cokes to the customers who are not members. Even though you allowed us to buy those Coke cans, some people see customer service with different eyes. As your coworker here says you cannot sell those, my husband and I- wanted to make sure 'no one' would get you in trouble for providing great service to patrons.

I do hope she is reported/disciplined for being a horrendous representation of this front desk. Other than this annoying employee, the African-American girl, and the (African-American/Caucasian)- curly-haired/petite girl were so nice and respectful, the valet parking young...

The Hampton Inn & Suites Phoenix Downtown has EXCEPTIONAL customer service! Everyone from the valet, housekeeping, front desk, and servers at the bar were over the top respectful and helpful during our stay. They went above and beyond for every guest, every chance they got! My friend forgot her toothbrush and they happily provided her with one. We also had checked in fairly late and asked if there was anywhere we could get some food as we hadn’t eaten dinner yet and they provided us with a menu where we were able to order some salads and they asked if we would like them take to our room, which was GREATLY appreciated! Every breakfast was absolutely exceptional, and they provided more then enough options to please everyone. And may I add their juice is by far the best continental breakfast juice I’ve ever had, not watered down at all (seriously my favorite breakfast option!). Everything is well decorated, clean, and “ready to host”. Their lobby is perfect to relax and wait for your group, get some work done, grab something to eat, or just hang out!

As a business owner customer service is the most important thing to me when I go somewhere. I pay thorough attention to the way I and others around me are treated by staff and I was blown away by the hospitality and service provided during our 3 day stay. Immediately when we arrived they were asking how they could help us and how our travels were. The valet went above and beyond to help us park, unpack AND take our belongings to our room for us! The front desk provided us with that forgotten item I mentioned before and so much kindness. The staff at the bar went above and beyond to customize what we wanted and bring it to our room for us with the most kindness. The housekeeping staff kept everything sparkling while also interacting with customers in the most respectful and fun manner possible. I could just go on and on about how great this hotel was! I travel quite frequently and the staff at Hampton Inn & Suites Phoenix Downtown are some of the best I have encountered in a long time! THANK YOU for making our girls trip that much...
