This is a pretty typical downtown hotel. Fancy restaurant on the first floor, rooftop pool (but what floor???), modern styling. It does offer ample self parking with easy in and out of the garage via the key to your room. That's basically the highlight for me.
The room itself is fairly standard, plenty of outlets and USB fixtures, though it seemed only about half of these worked. Really just wish places would go back to just outlets, the USB ports are always unreliable and I end up dragging charging bricks around anyway.
The bathroom kinda sucks. It is a glass shower, so no bath, which is cool and modern but sucks if you have a kid with you. The shower head had bad water pressure, notices it was one of those selectable kind with different nozzles that you could select but it seemed to be broken, had a hard time changing it, my wife managed to get it changed once and it switched to something closer to a fire hydrant than a shower, so the options seemed to be crappy water pressure or all of the water pressure.
The shower also had this annoying metal drain cover (right under the shower head) that would constantly "ping" as water droplets hit it. It's annoying and continues after the shower as water slowly drips from the shower head, very cool.
The toilet is fine, seat felt cheap. Sink offered plenty of counter space and a large mirror. Sink did not suffer from water pressure issues. It did suffer from extremely hot water, which may be is a plus for some people , but when the exact middle setting of the faucet handle is damn near scalding, it's too damn hot.
The service of this place is meh at best. We had requested a crib for our room when we booked, it wasn't there when we got there. Called down and requested one, they said they would send one up. We go to dinner and come back, no crib. Request again at the front desk, they say it will be thirty minutes. Comes and goes, no crib. Go back down, have to request a manager, several minutes later he comes out and apologizes, apparently they delivered it to wrong room and instead of confirming that for our second and third request the house keeping just ignored the request. Guess they just assumed we were stashing them in the closet or something. We finally got it, only took 3 hours.
The information about this place is hard to find. I am sitting in my room right now and can't tell you what floor the pool is accessed from. There is a QR code in the room that is supposed to link to hotel features and amenities, which I guess it does, but it doesn't have any real information. It has multiple rooms service options, a bunch of stuff to reserve around downtown, and a single page about the fitness center and how great it is, but no info on where it is (but a link for a pointless app, wow!) and several mentions of Marriott Bonvoy.
If you have stayed at a Marriott you probably know about it, heck, I bet you have signed up for Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program because it is apparently required to get even the barest minimum in standard accommodations at Marriott hotels, yet they shove it down your throat every other second on their webpage or whenever you try to do anything. Basic things like Wi-Fi access that are pretty standard at any hotel, are barred behind Bonvoy membership, otherwise you pay for it per day. Which is ludicrous.
Internet access is tiered. The basic level is free with Bonvoy or $15/day. Or you can upgrade to better Internet for $20/day, maybe that is free if you are Bonvoy gold or premium, idk. But neither Internet options speeds/access are actually defined and they appear to be limited to a single device. It's awful value all around and difficult to deal with. The sign in page seems buggy at best, it at first didn't work at all, then connected but was still trying to get me to by the basic Internet (which should be free), closing out of that made my device think it lost Internet, but then it didn't, and it worked anyway so I just moved on.
TLDR: ok for business crap, bad for families or anyone who isn't all...
Read moreWe stayed only 1 night as a transit from our trip in Arizona to Vegas. Upon driving in, the hotel has a sizable entrance for drop off and valet, we did self parking but it was not difficult for me to locate where it is, and there’s also plenty of spots inside the covered lot. ||The lobby is impressively big, spacious, and neatly designed. Most of the area features soaring ceilings, with modern chandeliers, very well lit, and plenty of lounging spaces. There’s a bar, a wine vault, a convenience store, an executive lounge, a restaurant called Carcara. The convenience store carries one of the comprehensive collections I’ve seen, from typical needs like meds, toiletries, feminine products, to shoes, clothes and hats, to food and drinks, to jewelries, to crystals, to sunscreens, to bags, to tide pens and more. My husband did the check in while I parked the car and he told me the gentleman at check in was very friendly and helpful, and the whole process was quick and seamless. As part of our Titanium elite status, we got offered an upgrade to a suite with a great view of Phoenix downtown, we also got an F&B credit to use since they charge a resort fee to begin with. ||The room itself is beautiful, nice living area with a separate toilet, our en-suite is spacious, the bed is big and comfortable, and the bathroom has dual sinks, a good shower with good pressure and responsive cold to hot temperature change, and a nice smelling body wash / shampoo / conditioner. ||The overall decor of the hotel and our room reminded us of places we stayed at while living in New Zealand. Everything seems new and is kept in near pristine condition, the decor style, color combination, incorporation of woods, and the lighting used, all came together nicely and is chic. The restaurant Carcara, was impressive overall, the decor is eye-catching, both the menu and food portion sizes are just right, our server was friendly, and the food was delicious. Throughout our dinner, we saw an older gentleman in suit walking around and checking on all tables. By the time we were wrapping up our mains, the older gentleman came to address us again, and somehow became our server in getting our plates away and also getting us the desert menu and taking our order, he was very hands on and turns out he’s one of the managers, it was great to see management level physically participate and take care of things.||We also checked out the gym and the pool, both are phonemes for a city hotel. First off, the gym is huge, with lots of new / well maintained equipments, good enough for an actual proper workout. The pool is a good size, and the best thing was the placement of the pool, it’s one of those rare pools that get sun from sunrise to sunset, so you can go anytime and still get sun. We didn’t get to spend too much time at both the gym and the pool because we had to catch a flight but for the limited time that we were there, it was very enjoyable. ||Great hotel within the US overall, and we will definitely stay at Sheraton again next time we’re in the...
Read moreDO NOT BOOK HERE* Went here for con yesterday for 3 days, I will attach an itemized list of the exploitative charges and miscellaneous "fees" on the receipt. 50 dollars for "urban fees" (we live and operate a business here, and have lived here for our whole lives) To start, the service infrastructure for the hotel was not equipped to deal with the event. We were charged this "urban fee" to use services that are paid at time of service too, and this is considered by law "double dipping" as well as the practice of including complimentary parking with the room and then subsequently selling that parking space to the public at 39 dollars a night. This practice is extremely questionable in legality and has contributed to the decision to no longer host events in this hotel. The facilities were lackluster and many of the amenities were restricted. The valet made me walk with all of my bags to see if the parking had cleared up, then I had to walk a half mile to retrieve my car and park it to come back inside and attempt to stop them from taking more money. Avoid this hotel like the plague, the Hilton is much more friendly to locals and will not try to exploit you for choosing their hotel. This hotel for this and many other reasons has been removed from our preferred list both personally and from my company's list of accommodations. My business union is working to apply alternate accommodations for the network of companies that we manage as well. Please do not allow this place to continue ruining Phoenix destination travel. How can my clients stimulate the economy when they're being drained of every penny by the place we've already spent over 1k a head at? For this reason they will no longer receive our large scale business. We attempted to resolve this on-site but had no luck. No attempt at reparation from the side of the hotel has been made.
Major issues: Parking scheme colluding with "ACE Parking" to wring money from their guests who are staying on-site. They sell your parking spot they included in the brochure to make an extra 39 dollars on top of the room they sold you. Staff was generally uninterested in assistance, valet requested that I walk with my bags into the garage to check parking and I did, thusly was able to park my vehicle for an hour. There is nothing to eat in this area beyond the hotels restaurant and delivery food, as you will likely have to park about a mile away for 30 dollars a nighf and walk back each time unless you wish to pay for a ride on top of this.
The shareholders of this hotel have kneecapped their own business and have become predatory to any entity seeking to choose them for lodging. For this reason, myself and thousands of others will no longer be doing business with The Spend-a-Ton Hotel. Feel free to reach out and I will tell you of the things I can't include in this review. Thank you! (Not...
