I have read some very scrupulous things about the owner of this stand & the behavior of its employees, so I have knocked down my review a point. I do believe that as consumers, it is important to consider where your money eventually ends up. If it ends up enriching the lives of bigots, you have a moral responsibility to spend it elsewhere.
However, when I visited myself, once with my bf & once with both him and his mother, I had wonderful experiences. For the record we are a mixed couple & I would describe myself as “visibly LGBTQ.” All of us felt welcome & safe.
I sincerely enjoyed talking with the employees, who were friendly, knowledgeable, and outgoing. The produce was extremely affordable, and even their more touristy products were cheaper than anywhere else we saw in AZ. (specifically Cactus Candy, Cactus Candy products, & novelty lollipops) I highly recommend stocking up on souvenirs here and trying some local produce you won’t find just about anywhere else in the US.
That Cactus Candy is highly addictive, by the way, so I recommend stocking up before you no longer have the chance! If you visit during this time of the year it’s just about citrus season. If you haven’t had fresh-picked oranges before, you absolutely must give them a try.
I hope that all the negative reviews reflect Summers Fruit Barn’s past, and I will likely...
Read moreRACIST FRANCHISE. You WILL be racially profiled. I left and came back to purchase with cash. As I stood in line waiting to purchase some $3 honey, the cashier came from behind the counter and asked me where the honey was. I opened the bag that had all of the items I wanted to purchase in it and showed her, then she went back behind the counter. After that I put everything I had down because I wasn’t going to purchase anything from someone that just accused me of stealing while literally standing in line to purchase. I walked out of the store and the cashier told another employee to follow me and she told me to pay for what I had (but mind you it’s on camera that I put down the bag that had everything in it). I told her that I didn’t have anything and I didn’t need to steal. I was literally standing in line to purchase everything. I pulled off and she took a picture of my car and license plate. But I’m not sure what she’s going to do with that because I didn’t take anything. My mother and I were also followed around the store so it was impossible for them to actually see me take something. If you are anything but white DO NOT GO HERE. You will be accused of stealing even while trying to support a...
Read moreI agree with post below regarding the business boldly expressing their political beliefs. I also try to support local businesses and farmers market. I happen to go there on Inauguration Day and an older woman with glasses, who worked there was ranting at the counter about how the Democratics were going to be crying their eyes out today. How America finally has a good President. I was incredibly uncomfortable for myself and my young daughter with me. There was a couple shopping who stated they were from Canada and felt very sad for the United States. I did not intend to support this business anymore but the other day driving by my young daughter asked me to stop in. Reluctantly I did. The experience was better overall. They were blasting country music which is preference for them but they were friendly and offered samples. The produce is good, but you have to pick through it. I can appreciate the large supply of local honey and hard to find items. The bulk items are definitely over priced and there are some items for my family I'd rather buy at other...
