I feel fortunate to have this wonderful market so close. We buy most of our food here. Last Saturday we came home with pasture raised eggs that had been laid two days earlier, pastured beef, bison, and pork, heirloom tomatoes, butterhead lettuce, raspberries, blueberries, peaches, melon, Mariachi peppers, new potatoes, mushrooms, and freshly dug carrots. The quality, freshness, and seasonal variety of what you can buy here cannot be matched by a supermarket, plus here you can talk to the people who produced your food and sometimes even see pictures of the farm!
It's a tribute to the folks who run the market that the same vendors are here year after year. Oh, and the market is open during the winter too. Very few markets are. It's great to be able to come and buy greens harvested the day before during the cold dark days of January and February.
You owe it to yourself to come and try it out. The prices of most fruits and veg are comparable to the price of organic produce at the supermarket and they're fresher because they don't have to be hauled to a distant distribution center and back. The prices of meats and fish may be a little higher, but the quality and taste are outstanding. Sure, I can buy ground bison in Giant or Wegman's, and I have, but when I cooked it, it had a lot more water in it than Backyard Bison, which comes from Quakertown, not Colorado. When I ate a pork chop from Country Time it was like I was eating pork for the first time. The taste and texture are so much better than anything from a supermarket.
Do come check it out! Your body...
Read moreReally like this Farmers' Market because it has such a great variety of booths. The Collective Creamery stand (Birchrun Hills Farm) has the most delicious cheeses, and freshly made buttermilk, cultured butter, creme fraiche and a cheese/mushroom/beer fondue offered in cooler months that is so good! Stop by the Seep Roots booth for the best homemade chicken pot pie you'll ever eat, delicious grass fed beef, and super fresh eggs. Stop by the Deer Creek Malt's stand where they sell craft beer made by various brewers who use their malt. Stop at other tables and buy some tasty microgreens, cheesesteak egg rolls, fresh produce, and so much more. Many vendors are at the market year round, even in the bitter cold of winter. Don't forget to stop at the Deep Roots Valley stand and get a delicious, piping hot egg and cheddar biscuit (and other varieties as well).
The parking is very convenient. Although it appears that you'll never get a spot, cars are coming and going continuously, so getting a space is usually...
Read moreWe were so lucky to live on Mill Street in Phoenixville, PA, when we first moved here a few years ago because it’s on the same street as the weekly Phoenixville Farmers Market, so we are able to walk there every Saturday morning, rain or shine. We always pick up a variety of fresh vegetables from the various vendors and we usually pick up something for lunch AND dinner as well.
There are always a handful of non-food vendors as well and we have picked up a few unique items on occasion, including a wood-carved pepper mill, plants for our backyard, and the most awesome Easter bunny holding a basket of cracked pastel eggs filled with succulents.
It is so much fun to listen to music, watch the children playing in the children’s area, and just soak in the atmosphere at...
