Avoid the octopus. Appetizers: Beets with walnut: very good Sausage: Good, but overpriced for what it is (for the price I was expecting something more than just a sausage with mustard) Octopus: Everything on the plate apart from the octopus itself was excellent, however the Octopus itself tasted and smelled off, tasted like there was something wrong with the octopus (or maybe fished from polluted water) rather than the preparation. The smell was not strong, but was definitely bad (in my experience from other restauants, octopus should have almost no smell at all, and certainty should not smell bad in any way). Main Course: Lamb chops: a little salty, but excellent and cooked to perfection. Lamb shank: tender, but not as flavourful as I would expect. Bread: truly excellent. Dessert: Genuinely excellent Atmosphere: Felt busy, was very warm. Server was excellent. Experience: The proactive request to order appetizers and main course together made the meal feel rushed (even though we likely would have done so anyway). BYOB is good. Overall: A mixed bag, and for the price here that's not what I expect. If not for the octopus probably 5 stars, but the octopus smell lingered as an unpleasant memory. If that is truly the way it is supposed to be (as claimed by the chef) then I suspect some people will find it very unpalatable, and I strongly recommend it be avoided for fear of ruining the meal.

Wonderful refined Greek food. We had the Kopanisti which is a spicy feta cheese with herbed pita to dip. It was so creamy and flavorful. We also had the Feta Phyllo which is creamy feta wrapped in phyllo pastry and baked. It was wonderful with the grape reduction. My husband had the salmon fillet (not sure what the name was) with orzo. It was a generous portion and cooked perfectly. The orzo had zucchini and capers in it and went very well with the salmon. I had the Moshari Gastras which was braised beef in a cinnamon scented tomato sauce with potatoes. The flavors were not overwhelming and complimented the beef which was perfectly cooked. It fell apart easily but it still had a good beefy flavor and texture. The potatoes were well seasoned and tender. For dessert we had Karidopita Poutiga which is walnut cake soaked in honey and covered in a vanilla cinnamon custard. Even though I was full, I had to try it. It was so creamy. Everything was delicious. It is the best comfort food because it isn't heavy and the flavors all blend so well. You can taste all parts of the dish and nothing is overcooked.

We had high expectations for Avlos based on our love of Greek food and their yummy sounding menu. Unfortunately the execution of the menu left something to be desired. Whenever we see Octopus on the menu we always order it. The Avlos version ($22) came on a delicious fave bean puree but the octopus was very undercooked. The Spanakopita ($16) was very good. The braised beef with Greek pasta ($29) was uninspiring. The meat was very tough. It was kind of a blessing that the entree only had 2 small pieces. At that price one certainly would expect more than a couple of bites of protein. My partners Barramundi was also very skimpy and the chickpea salad it came with was not great. Despite the food being subpar we still enjoyed the atmosphere. The street was closed down and it was a beautiful night. They had an authentic Greek combo playing that made us feel like we were in the Greek isles. Only complaint outside is that the tables were super close together. The place is a BYOB. Parking in Phoenixville on the weekend is tough so be prepared.

This was our second time coming here. First time everything went fine and the food was good. I wanted to say that first. Yesterday we came here as a family. My wife and I and my mother and father and law. Cat B was our server. Everything started off pretty normal. We put in some appetizers and then Cat came back to take our entree orders before the appetizers came out. When my mother in law placed her order for the beef kebabs she asked if anything had peppers in it or on it. Cat said she can tell them no peppers. This will be important for later. Continuing the appetizers came out the hummus and fava were really good but the Melitzana came out and was super salty. We said we didn't want it. So a bit later the entrees come out and the beef kebabs are mixed with bell peppers and then cooked. My mother in law can't do any peppers because they upset her stomach. So we told Cat that we asked if anything had peppers. She said she didn't know the kebabs had peppers in them and she put a note and she would show us. OK, fine annoying but in the end no big deal, or we thought. She said to us" Can I get you something else?" Which at a normal restaurant means "Hey! we are sorry you didn't like it we would like to not ruin your meal what can we swap out for you. Importantly for anyone who ever eats here which I don't recommend that's not the case. My mother in law got the lamb chops and expected to just pay for those and have them to go because at this point we were already done and she was just digging into my fries and other people's things as they figured this out.

The bill comes and this is where it gets weird. The bill has the kebabs and the lamb chops and the egg plant dish on it. We asked Cat what goes on with this. She said we are told that if they make the dish the way it is and it comes out you still get charged for it. Nothing can be sent back. That's the first time I ever heard that. We asked to talk to a manger. Cat told us " We don't have a manager here, we are told to deal with stuff on our own" That's pretty weird. I never heard of a restaurant with no manager. At this point she seemed pretty annoyed with the whole process. But she basically tricked us into getting another entree. If she knows the rules and we don't (how would we). You would say hey, I don't know if you are still hungry. We can get you something else but its not a swap out and you are still going to be charged no matter what. As we were leaving we asked the girl in the red hair at the front when the manager would be in. She said I don't even know( Again weird, is there no manager?). I said can I leave my number with you to get a call. I'm not expecting to get a call by the way but that would be great. Also, We would have left a tip either way even with the bad experience. But seeing as those two items cost basically what the tip was since again we basically got tricked into another entree. We left 0$. Which is not something we ever do.

Also, its pretty crappy somebody underlined the things we either didn't like or got duped into ordering. Just to prove a point that hey you hated these or got tricked into them but you still gotta pay.

If the manager who apparently doesn't exist and nobody knows who they are and when they work wants to reply that would be great.

Update 6/29 I did call and ask to speak with the manager. The person who answered was very nice. Asked twice and said the manager was busy in the kitchen. I said all good I understand and left my number again. Its 9:13 and...

This is one of the WORST experiences of my life. This business knows nothing about hospitality. We ordered first courses, which were okay at best. I ordered swordfish for my main dish, and it was served extremely overcooked and tough. I asked the waitress to have it remade. The chef came back, put my plate in front of me, and told me it was “perfect.” “Everything at the restaurant was prepared well done!” She even offered me a piece of raw fish before walking away. It was bizarre, combative, and abusive.

I then flagged my server down and expressed that this was the craziest thing I had ever experienced in a restaurant. I asked her to take the plate back and remove it from my bill.

Then, the chef came back out with the entree in an aluminum to-go box, threw it on the table along with the check! My friend was still eating her entree, and there was no coffee or dessert because the server was MIA!

Having no experience with this kind of situation, my friend and I discussed it and decided to cross the entree off the bill, pay the rest of the bill, and leave a $20 tip, of course leaving the aluminum container of inedible fish on the table.

By the way, the chef was waiting in the wings and sent two different servers to collect the bill and payment.

As we proceeded to leave and walked down the street, the chef chased us down Gay Street, bizarrely screaming, “You probably do this every night! You only eat at chain restaurants! You are a joke!” We stopped and waited for her to approach while standing on Gay Street. She was on the phone and had called the police.

Three officers arrived, separated us, and went over our stories. The officers explained that she had a “no food return policy” and that it was her restaurant, so she could run it however she wanted. She wanted to press charges over the $15 we had shorted the bill.

The officers explained it wasn’t worth our while to proceed and suggested we just give her the $15.

Now my friend and I are “banned”...

This was the worse dining experience I have ever had in my life! First we ordered a bottle of sparkling water that was warm. I ordered the eggplant appetizer and it was super salty. I complained to Cat. She took it away. I told the waitress that I wanted to order the beef skewers without peppers because I have am allergic to peppers. She quickly said yes the skewers can be cooked with no peppers. And, I asked what the sides were on the beef skewers dish she quickly said potatoes and zucchini. I got my dinner and at first glance I noticed there were no potatoes and zucchini. Just a very salty mix of minced veggies. And when I bit into the beef it was stuffed with minced peppers! I told the waitress that the beef had peppers in them. She said she didn't know that. Why hadn't she asked the kitchen when I said I had a pepper allergy ? She kept insisting that I get another entree in place of this one. So, I ordered the lamb . Later when we got our check we were charged for the salty and terrible eggplant appetizer, the beef skewers entree and the lamb entree which she insisted I order to rplace my entree because I hadn't been able to eat. When we called Cat over to the table she said yes you were charged because that's our policy . We do not credit for meals that are sent back to the kitchen. And yes that is correct, we charged for the lamb entree. I told her that was awful! That was a terrible thing to do! We asked to see the manager. She replied that the manager does not see anyone. The waitresses take care of the problems. I told her this was despicable! My advice to everyone is please stay away from this establishment if you visit Phoenixville. They are dishonest and the food is salty...
