I really enjoy the food, atmosphere and people at Steel City. However, this place is a HOT MESS when they are busy or understaffed. Heads up. Coffee is 10/10 and staff are very friendly.
EDIT: Regarding Owners response to my original review (FULL STORY)
There were several issues that I didn't specify in my initial review, but now feel obligated to do so. No, it was not just an overall poor experience because you are currently understaffed. Most places these days are. That isn't an excuse for poor communication with customers. I called an HOUR ahead to place my order, and was informed of the delay of an excessive 45 mins to make a simple quesadilla- which btw, was not even what I had gotten...which I will address further down. However, my order did not take 45 minutes, it took an hour. While I understood and was patient, a free scone and apologies can only go so far. At some point accountability is also necessary. So this is what my review is to serve as. I genuinely appreciated the friendly service, but you know what would just really be appreciated? Accurate and on-time service. When I did get my order, an hour later, it was terribly made. First of all, it wasn't even a quesadilla, but a burrito. Which was only mentioned as an alternative to how it could be made when I initially called to place my order as a potential to help EXPEDITE my order (saying it would take maybe 30 minutes instead of 45). More miscommunication. Also, why didn't any one clarify with me that it was what I still wanted, since you CLEARLY made the order when I got there and I had to wait an additional 15mins. Then what was even more depressing was when I took a bite of my burrito, it contained an excessive amount of corn with chicken and cheese. Cool. Except not, since the name of the quesadilla literally includes the words corn AND beans. So why were the beans, salsa and sour cream all individually packaged in small plastic containers is beyond me...like, what normal person eats a burrito that they have to unwrap and reassemble?? Especially one ordered from a restaurant? Isn't that the point of me paying you to do it??? Calling ahead - news flash- is supposed to help people who are most likely in a hurry or have other things to do. Hopefully now that you understand the story and my experience fully, you will see the error being more than just an "understaffed" problem, but rather a cook, communication and understaffed...
Read moreHonest Review, went there for breakfast and to get a coffee. Had a bagel with eggs, bacon, cheese, pretty good. But my reason for two stars on food was for the coffee, unfortunately I couldn’t taste the coffee until after a couple more sips. I got the white mocha, I’d expect to taste some chocolate but to my surprise, I tasted none. The coffee flavor didn’t kick in until after a couple sips like I’ve mentioned. You’re probably wondering what was I tasting in the first couple sips then, and its hard to describe it because Im sure it was milk but at the same time I wasn’t sure, but obviously it has milk so it must’ve been. It wasn’t flavorful at the end. At least the breakfast bagel saved my morning by a clutch. Someone else who was with me also had a bagel like mine but they didn’t like it due to the clumps of pepper they found in the eggs in every bite, i think they were just unlucky because mine had good portioned seasoning on my eggs. Service was great, I think the staff were really nice. Atmosphere was alright, not coffee vibes but surely a decent atmosphere, people will occasionally pipe into your convo and become your new best friend (jokingly). But aside from that everyone’s friendly with everyone.
Overall I give this...
Read moreYou know what's good about Steel City Coffeehouse? Everything. The staff and ownership, the food and drinks, the whole vibe. The warmth and diversity in that space is unparalleled, and the opportunities the owners provide to the community are selfless in so many ways. The fundraisers, charity events, and local live performers that can stretch out their voices and have a place to be heard are met with open hearts and big smiles. I love this place. I've been to a lot of coffee shops and breweries - Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Toronto, Vancouver, Chicago, Boston, Florida, Texas, Maine, Australia, England, Ireland, Honduras, Puerto Rico - I've seen a lot of people playing guitar, singing, harmonizing, rapping, married couples performing, folks collaborating with people they've just met, playing piano, reading poetry, and people here are genuinely supportive of the performer, regardless of genre, age, gender, color, or artistic style. You'd be hard pressed to find a place like this anywhere in the world, and we're fortunate enough to have such a special place for artists of all kinds, right here in our little town. Thank you Steel City. Also, I had the black bean burrito and a mocha the other day, and they were...
