Overall a good experience.
Pricing is overall priced by the gram throughout the store. There are some with flat pricing.
Prices are on the high end. $$$ to $$$$. There are about roughly 3 items that have a single digit price tag. $ Which is okay, but isn't going to put it on my list of "inexpensive great finds" for crystal shops. If you're looking for that go to SparkleDragon's $ or Crystal River Gems $ to $$, with the occasional $$$.
Geology Rocks had palm stones for $22. I'm sorry, that's twice the price at minimum for a palm stone. Three times in some cases. Which for my pricing, puts it at $$$ to $$$$, for crystal shops. Example, I bought a amethyst skull at CRG, for $7. Here that same size and grade skull would have been $50.
The selection is beautiful. You will find rare things here. So if you're looking for meteorites, azurite, sulfur, high quality fluorite... sorry tho, I am not paying $250 or $500 for a 3-4 in cube Fluorite. Especially if the grade is unknown.
They do carry things that other stores sometimes don't have. So if you are looking for the rare find, do check this place out. It is rather awe inspiring in that regard.
Also, the store is too small. A bigger store would increase that feeling of awe & wonder that comes with the discovery of things. Very cramped feeling, for me, at least.
The saleslady, well, I wouldn't come back on customer service by itself. She was nice, but a bit snobby.
Overall I liked it. I know where to get the...
Read moreBack in July 2025, I was visiting Pittsburgh with a friend, and we stopped into Geology Rocks, Pittsburgh. I saw a beautiful Labradorite owl carving, and at the time, I couldn't afford to purchase it. It was heartbreaking.
Now, in September 2025, I have been luckily in better finances and immediately thought of the craving I so badly wanted. I reached out to the shop - after hours, like 10 pm - and within a couple of hours (12 am!!) received a text back. They had it and were willing to save it for me over the weekend until I was back in town! They were shipping it to me at no cost, which was also so nice and helpful.
The communication was so seamless. Just straight to my phone like texting a friend, and the person helping me along the way of purchasing, invoicing, and shipping treated me like a friend, too!
I will definitely be purchasing again, whether in person or online. They have a great collection of rocks at very fair pricing, and the staff is incredible.
Thank...
Read moreGeology rocks, really rocks!!! Was walking around lawrenceville after my birthday dinner and found this storefront! Countlessly I have drove passed and often wondered what was inside, I had the pleasure of going in and checking everything out! I am a lover of geology and gemology! My s/o's mother is recently more interested in the structures of stone, fossils and excavation of them! The business partner in PA(also former pgh native), though I cannot recall his name was SO easy to talk to and SUPER kind. He obviously knew all you could and more about everything done in and out of the shop. He was super complimentative and a million more adjectives that could describe him(all good ones). Well, i will certainly be back to frequent this place! I had such a relaxing and comforting time. I highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in gems, rocks, fossils and...
