RENTAL CUSTOMERS: Watch out For DUSTIN!! He will try to charge you for unjustified cleaning fees then talk bad to you.
Rented a Tiller from Dustin in rental (never offered me damage protection), got to the job site and after 10mins of use realized it kept bogging down and stalling out. Drove 25 mins back to the store to exchange it. Dustin and another older guy looked at the one I was returning and The only one left was a bigger Tiller. Dustin said that he would just exchange it out and give me the bigger one for the same price and same deposit. I made sure to get a receipt extending my time and verifying the same price. The second one worked out just fine.
When I brought the second one back and went to close out, Dustin informed me that I was charged a 50$ cleaning fee for the first one (the one that I used for 10 minutes before driving 50 mins from the site and back because it did not work. Also, the one that when I brought it back they tried to get it started and never mentioned anything about it needing cleaned. They waited until I brought the second one back) I argued the points to Dustin that I’ve previously mentioned and asked if I can close out on the second one that I bought back. He pretty much said it took him 10 mins to clean the first one and he doesn’t care how I feel because I’m never going to be able to rent from another Home Depot again. He would not close me out and give me a legit receipt saying that I bought the equipment back within the four hours. Also, he tried to charge me 40$, the price of the bigger tiller and not the 37$ that was on the receipt I received when exchanging. It wasn’t until I asked for a manager who was great (Jim or James) that the cleaning fee was waived and I was charged for the smaller Till.
Just a heads up to anyone who is renting for this location. I rent from Home Depots all over the area and never experience issue until this one. Another time renting hedge clippers, I’ve even told the older guy with white short hair who was working in rentals, to put in the notes that the equipment was not the “cleanest” . He replied back “ Don’t worry about that, no one ever charges for cleaning fees”
I’m a hardworking man. I can’t afford for shady people like Dustin to pick and choose when he wants to tack on an extra 50$ in the most shady way possible. I will be avoiding this place as much as possible and will be warning my other contractor friends. Be careful...
Read moreRarely ever used this Home Depot until a few months ago since it was farther from my house than the other one. The reason for this change was due in part to the customer service being superior here than at another location on Camp Horne Road up 279. This location actually cut the keys I needed to get cut for a car that I just got. One of those repo-specials with only one key.
The Camp Horne location wouldn't do it. Well, the guy whose job it was wouldn't do it, I can't say about other workers who work opposite shifts from him. Supposedly it was due to liability reasons, even though I told him flat out, with a witness present, that I would accept the loss and buy another key myself if something happened during the cut process, which I knew wouldn't. The key machines they use these days are high quality and aren't prone to failure or mistakes.
But instead that location missed out on not only a sale, but a repeat customer. East Liberty, on the other hand, just gained one, and the keys worked as expected, and still do months later including the spare non-chipped key I bought from HD(since they don't charge to actually cut the keys, I feel it's best to buy a key and/or other products from them that same day as a method of funding that machine and the person operating it). I still had to program them to the car after getting them cut(the rfid chip using a device I got off the net and the lock remotes which can be done manually), but that took mere minutes overall.
The only downside I see, aside from the distance, is how busy it is. Hard to find a spot to park and then you have to wade through so many people, but for the customer service it is all worth it. And I was reminded of this very fact again today when I went to pick up lumber and hardware. Had plenty of help taking it out and loading it under the awning when I brought the car up. Even the checkout was a very positive experience despite the long lines. The cashier made sure to try and lighten everyone's spirits with jokes and chitchat too. You don't see much of that these days so it was refreshing to...
Read moreComparable selection to the average superstore, with one positive exception: a much more expansive fastener aisle. The most nuts, bolts and assorted hardware I have ever seen in one store. That said, they have a relatively pitiful selection of higher grade fasteners and I tend to go elsewhere without even checking if they have them anymore. What that means is: If you need machining fasteners, they have a vastly superior collection of fasteners at or below grade 5 SAE/ grade 8.8 Metric. But if you need grade 8 SAE/ Grade 10.9 Metric or higher, the selection of fasteners is actually more limited than the average store. As such, if you're repairing a machine that sits in a shop, you will find what you need here. Same goes for most fasteners in any given vehicle. But if you come looking for something stronger, say a bolt for suspension components in a vehicle which need greater durability, then you may as well pass and find another store. The tools are good quality. No Snap On, but certainly enough for even the most relentless DIYer. The walk in lifetime warranty returns part in hand are also exceptionally convenient. Best deal on portable mid-sized mechanics toolkits anywhere. If you're looking for a 200-300 piece set, you'll find that the Husky brand often goes for half the price of competitors (even counting Harbor Freight) and are as good and at times better in quality. But the price point was the real reason that my first major tool investment ($1,500 in 2 months) was nearly half Husky brand tools. I was able to get a veritable shop's worth of equipment with organization equipment and with a warranty I've already conveniently used a few times in the past 2 months (my 21 year old beater's rust issues are not Home Depot's fault lol. But they replaced my fractured ratchets no questions asked with a simple walk-in...
