When planning a bachelorette party in Pittsburgh, my fellow maid of honor and I were looking for a nice restaurant to go out to eat and celebrate our bride, we found Blue Sky. The place seemed exactly like what we were looking for: had a wide variety menu, fun cocktails, nice outdoor and indoor seating areas and in a great location! We went to their website to book a reservation for the 11 girls who were joining on us on the trip. Since our party was too large it prompted us to call the restaurant instead which was no problem. When we called the woman who answered the phone told us they don’t take reservations over the phone and instructed us to make one through the website, even after hearing how large our party was. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN OUR FIRST RED FLAG. So back to the website we went and sent an email on June 10th inquiring about a reservation on June 22nd. A man named Tyler responded and said he would be happy to accommodate our party of 11 for our requested day and time. After several emails were exchanged, he had sent us a confirmation email and even sent us a confirmation through Open Table - their booking site. All seemed well and we were looking forward to our trip. Little did we know that when we would arrive for our reservation the hostess told us she had no reservation under our name or for a party that size. When we explained that we had confirmations of our reservation and spoke to this Tyler, she told us that no Tyler worked there. We proceeded to show her all the emails and ask who we were in contact with and all she could respond was “I don’t know, and we don't have any reservations in the system”. We asked to speak to a manager because we were confused, upset and did not understand how we had several confirmation emails, and no one knew what we were talking about or who we were talking to. The manager comes out and we explain our situation in which he tells us that Tyler is the general manager (you should probably educate your staff on that) but Tyler is not typically physically in the restaurant (so maybe he shouldn’t be handling the reservations). Not once did we receive an apology that the issue was clearly not our fault, but the manager offered to throw some tables together and seat us inside. This would have been great, but he continued to put tables together directly in front of a loud band that was playing while a member of our group was visibly holding a newborn baby. After we decided they did not care about us or the situation and were not going to do anything about it we decided to just be sat outside as we still wanted to enjoy our night. They pushed two picnic tables together that were clearly bent in the middle (like if I were to sit a drink on the table it would have tipped over). We saw another larger party our size that was asking for their check, paying the bill and finishing some drinks and asked if we could move to their tables once they departed in which the staff agreed. Until then we were fine sitting at the picnic tables, but we continued to wait for over 15 minutes for a server to approach us and take any orders after countless people had walked by and blatantly ignored us. At this point the other party had departed, servers continued to walk by, and no one even thought about clearing the tables so we could move. At this point we decided we had enough, and we were not staying at this restaurant and actively began looking for somewhere else to go and left.
We understand that the hostess and manager on duty at the time were not the ones who messed up booking the reservation but to see us all dressed up and my sister-in-law in her “bride to be” sash knowing we were clearly celebrating a special occasion and not even be SLIGHTLY sympathetic to the situation, not apology and continue to be rude to us is just outright embarrassing. I would rate this place negative stars if I could and will continue to tell literally anyone who will listen not to waste their time...
Read moreUS VETERAN AIR FORCE FORMER POLICE OFFICER AND 2019 PRESIDENTIAL AWARD RECIPIENT-MY TWO CENTS: only 3 people at the bar during this time. Only one paying customer and Bar Tender's Husband his buddy and me. In fact I visited this location multiple times and I've never seen anybody who looks like me there now I know why!!! I didn't even eat this food too much bad karma.
I recently visited Blue Sky while on a business trip to Pittsburgh, PA and had a disappointing experience. While the bartenders were friendly and helpful, I encountered an issue with my order.
When my food arrived, it had a side of ranch dressing, which I do not prefer and makes me very ill. I requested blue cheese dressing instead. The server, Alicia, seemed hesitant and suggested taking the entire order back to the kitchen to add the correct dressing.
I found this approach unusual and expressed my concern. To my surprise, Alicia then placed the blue cheese dressing on the bar in front of other customers, (Audrey's husband Thomas) who proceeded to slide the container of blue cheese down the bar to passes it to me. This felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. Especially since they were eating with their fingers. Audrey was also eating while making my drink. They were eating French fries and licking their fingers.
I asked Audrey why Alicia hadn't simply provided the blue cheese dressing directly to me. Her response was unclear, and her actions seemed strange and inappropriate.
When I mentioned my concerns to another server, Audrey, I was unexpectedly asked to leave. This was a surprising and disappointing reaction.
I later spoke with the manager, John, and explained the situation. I felt that the restaurant's staff had handled the situation poorly and in a way that was disrespectful and unprofessional.
Given my experience, I would recommend caution to others considering this restaurant. Especially, if you are visiting from out of town. Because, this same server Alicia brought free fries for Thomas, Audrey's husband. I am so surprise that Audrey asked me to leave because this was my 4th time purchasing food there while staying at a hotel across the street. This place is not what you want. Very weird. I want to say more but if you look like me AVOID THIS PLACE!
The bar is empty and it's just not worth it. I had fries and wings, and two cocktails. I was ordering my lunch and dinner there too and thought they were friendly. But was I ever wrong.
I wonder why Audrey and the manager John think it's okay for Thomas Audrey's husband and his buddy to slide me blue cheese down a bar while they scarfed down fries with their fingers NASTY.
Maybe, Matt Turbiner will read this and really consider that we have 200 plus People in our group and his restaurant is still empty. It's not the food it's not the drink it's your staff. Literally stop spending money on the radio commercials I've heard the marketing you need to change your staff sir. They...
Read moreA really nice edition to the ever growing East Liberty food scene. The space is modern yet still feels inviting, with a decent amount of room without feeling overly cavernous. The service was quite pleasant and attentive and thoughtful, which is always a plus for any restaurant, especially a newer one.
The food choices are elevated gastropub style faire, but all was done well and with some unique touches to make it stand out. My wife and I shared the sweet potato tater tots, and they were really nice for a largely simple item, and were served hot and fresh and with some unique and enjoyable dipping sauces. I had the hot honey fried chicken, which was also served very fresh and had a nice juxtaposition between the savory chicken, the spicy honey and the crisp and juicy veg, quite decent overall. My wife had the Bahn Mi, which she said was a bit over sauced, but the pork was very good and the bread was rather top notch.
I don't normally do cocktails, I opt for the beer menu, but said can list was a bit sparse and the bar drinks seemed really intriguing and well thought out. I opted for the Campfire Old Fashioned, and was really happy with the choice. The mix of smoky scotch with sweet notes of marshmallow and chocolate (including a toasted marshmallow on top for good measure) was a rather perfect marriage, and it was one of the better mixed drinks I've had anywhere in quite some time. Overall, it's definitely worth a visit, especially if you're in the mood for something not too dressed up, but definitely more than you'll get from many restaurants serving new...
