My partner and I have tried almost every coffee shop in the city, and we can confidently say that Redstart makes the best lattesāand it's not close. Not only do they brew (and roast!) phenomenal coffee, but they do it at fair pricesāonly $5 for a 12oz iced flavored latte (+$1 for alternative milk). They have delicious and unique seasonal flavors (ube, orchid, pandan, mole, along with some more standard flavors like lavender and maple), and they sell adorable merch. Their space is decorated with tons of cute bird-themed details, along with a helpful community event board.
You will see reviews about an allegedly "rude" barista. I am here to tell you that he is phenomenalāand I truly mean phenomenalāat his job. As a barista, it is not his job to be our friend, but instead to make us a great cup of coffeeāand damn does he succeed. Although he can be a little gruff depending on the day, he will always get a pass from me because the espresso is simply that good (plus, when he is friendly to you, you feel really special).
Collectively, my partner and I have probably consumed upwards of 150 lattes from this establishment (we lived in the neighborhood and went a few times a week). We can think of only a single cup that wasn't perfect.
We recently moved out of the city and this is by far the place we miss most. Iāve never recommended a place more confidently or more highly. This is the place to get coffee...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been grabbing coffee at Redstart Roasters for a few years now, and it is pretty much my go to place at this point.
The dedication to bird-friendly beans from sustainable farms is admirable and obviously a plus to anyone who loves birds as much as Matt, the owner, who consistently impresses with his precise roasting of each single origin bean, opting for light or medium roasts to highlight intricate flavors. I donāt usually like black coffee, but I do when itās from Redstart.
Iāve heard people say the atmosphere is reminiscent of a library with its serene energy. Thereās comfortable, high-end furniture, a non-functional phone booth, bird-themed decor, and bird books on every table that all come together to create a cool vibe.
My favorite thing about Redstart Roasters though, beyond the outstanding coffee is also the warmth of the community. Iāve never encountered an unfriendly face, be it a fellow customer or a staff member. This place is a gem in Pittsburghās...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAs a nature photographer who loves birds, I was over the moon when I found Redstart Roasters. The interior is so welcoming with large leather sofas and a large table to work from. There are outlets for your laptop everywhere too.
The coffee is excellent. I had a dirty chai and a straight chai. I was waiting for my car to be repaired, so I was there for a while. They have a small selection of food, muffins, and scones mostly. That said, the muffins are delicious. Also, I saw on their website that they often have food trucks.
Plus, they have a free parking lot (not that I needed it since my car was in the shop) but a friend I ran into was having a meeting and told me it's how he gets suburbanites to meet him there - lol.
If you're looking for a really great coffee that is ecologically sourced or just a really nice place to hang out and get some work done, you need to check out...
