â 1 Star â Crate & Barrel: Disrespect Is Not Good Customer Service
Let me paint the picture clearly.
I walked into the Crate & Barrel storeâdressed well, walking with confidenceâready to browse and spend money. Four sales associates, all white, standing in a small group near the entrance. They saw me. One made direct eye contact as I walked in⌠then immediately turned back around like I was invisible. No greeting. No âHello.â No âWelcome in.â Not even a nod. Just went right back to their conversation like I wasnât even a person who just entered their place of business.
As I walked through the storeâalone, the only customer in sightânot a single associate approached me. I passed multiple staff members. Nothing. No offer to help. No eye contact. No acknowledgment. It wasnât until I turned around to leave, clearly disappointed, that someone finally called out from behind, âDid you need help with something?â
Now you ask? After Iâve walked the whole store and been completely ignored?
Letâs be real: Iâm a Black man. And I know exactly what I experienced. This wasnât just bad serviceâit was selective service. Letâs not pretend like they didnât know how to greet a customer. They just chose not to treat me like one.
So I left. I got on my phone, Googled your competitors, and headed straight to West Elm.
Night and day.
At West Elm, I was greeted warmly the second I walked in. Asked what I was looking for. Shown options. Given space and attention without hovering or ignoring me. It was clear they wanted my business and valued my presence.
Guess what? Thatâs where my money went. And thatâs where itâll go again.
Crate & Barrelâyou lost more than a sale today. You lost a customer. And I hope others who value dignity, equity, and basic respect take...
Read moreI had the pleasure of working with Nora at the Crate & Barrel store in Willow Bend, and I couldn't be happier with the experience! Nora helped me design both my living room and bedroom, and her expertise truly shines through. She is incredibly skilled at using design software to create visuals that make it easy to envision how everything will look together. This efficiency was a game-changer for me in deciding which furniture pieces fit my style best.
What stood out to me was Nora's amazing personality. She has a great sense of humor, which made the whole process enjoyable. But more importantly, she was fully respectful of my ideas and preferences. She never once pushed me to order or purchase anything. Instead, she took the time to understand my style, pace, and needs, always ensuring I was comfortable with the decisions being made.
Not only are her design suggestions solid and practical, but she also went above and beyond to resolve an issue I had with an online order through FedEx. She handled everything quickly and professionally, making sure I was satisfied with the outcome.
I genuinely enjoyed working with Nora and truly appreciate all of her help. Her customer-focused approach and deep knowledge of design make her a standout at Crate & Barrel. If you're looking for expert design advice that is both creative and tailored to your unique taste, I highly recommend asking for Nora. She made the whole experience seamless, fun, and, most importantly, perfectly aligned with what I was looking for. Thank you, Nora, for turning what could have been a daunting task into a...
Read moreBad experience with the designer. I worked with Vicky in designing and choosing the furniture. I provided the floor plan with dimensions and pictures during the design session and our idea for furniture placement. I was shown a rendering from their design software with furniture placement. I ordered only the main sofas hoping to order the swivel chairs later. Upon receiving the furniture we realized that the design did not account for when the person sitting on the swivel chair swivels towards the sofa next to it, people are going to bump knees with each other. Besides when I tried to contact Vicky about this there would never be any prompt response. Also when I reached out to David (store manager) he suggested there is nothing wrong with the design and also persuaded me to buy a smaller swivel chair or not swivel to that side (duh) to avoid the problem. I challenged his design by offering to buy all the furniture in the design and if there is no problem then I would keep them all but if my observations were right then they should accept return of all the furnitures to which he said no and he kept running circles around how there is no problem with the design. I feel like the designer should have suggested alternate ideas if my idea for furniture does not fit the space and that is one of the reasons anyone would go to a designer. They would gladly upsell instead of designing with your interest in mind because it looks like that is how they make...
