Stopped by fragrance shopping, wanted to get a few samples in order to see how they work with my body and was told I could only get two perfume samples in the entire store. Idk if they’ve changed the policy or if the lady just didn’t want to create a sample. She didn’t seem very enthused, I got the vibe that she really didn’t want to assist me, she also told me she hates making samples, which is crazy to say to a shopper.
I was a manager at a Dillards in a different location and we never had a limit on samples. Of course we weren’t going to sit there and make or give 20 samples to one person, however, giving a potential client 3-5 samples to help them make their decision hurts no one. Whether they buy from you or not, it creates a good impression of the store and the sales rep and that person is more likely to shop with you. I know each counter has sales goals, so the way you treat people ultimately determines how successful or unsuccessful your counter will be in sales.
I see why this location is empty. Your employees judge their shoppers and pick and choose who they provide good customer service to. I’m sure the lady assumed I wasn’t going to purchase anything today because of my appearance, although I actually intended to. I was just wanting to see what else I might like so that I can purchase more at a later date. I ended up making my purchase at a different retailer, where the fragrance staff was alot nicer and welcoming.
I’ve trained plenty of sales people, and the number one thing I taught them was never judge a person based on what you think they’re coming to spend, treat everyone with kindness, and as if they have purchased something already. You never know whose in front of you/what kind of money they have or come from, never know what they are actually willing to spend with you if you create a good first impression and build rapport. That was my first time at this location and I definitely won’t be back. The lady that works the first fragrance counter(Dior/Tiffany/Gucci) when entering from the 2nd floor is who gave me a less than good experience around 12 pm on 9/11/24. And it’s not solely bc of her limiting samples, but also because I got the feeling she didn’t want to assist me anyway, she was very hesitant, not welcoming, not acting like she wanted to sale me anything....

They have employees ready to assist. The fitting rooms are neat and tidy. The colorful racks of name brand clothing and shoes and everything else, just wow! Look for special deals on the clearance racks, shop midweek daytime if you want a truly quiet experience, and of course, enjoy the great air conditioning while you shop. It really is splendid pickings.
Old review from 2019: I am telling you what. This store is only getting better, mostly thanks to conscientious staff who take their work seriously and with pride and joy. We all enjoy a bit of shopping when we can, and sometimes it is a dull, soulless experience wandering around a store and hoping to find that exact something or that inexact something. It gets tiresome and sometimes hopeless. Dillard's employees are like your shopping sidekicks, your C3PO of exploring the sandy dunes for what you need. We found our helper in the kind, vivacious assistance from a gal in the men's accessories/cologne counter. Renate (not sure of spelling) was quite delightful as she showed us around to the different counters and helped us to discover a new cologne for the upcoming Father's Day gift we wanted. She was patient and yet pointed us in all the right directions so we could decide. What a joy to have her assistance! We purchased a new cologne and got a few samples of a couple others. Due to a promotion we also got a small gift of a travel mini container for cologne. Of course, as I always do, I saved the perfume-soaked sample cards of the different fragrances we had tried. They will be in the dresser drawers at home to provide a nice scent and we will remember how helpful Renate was for a long time. Thank you, Dillard's, for hiring good people and stocking...
Read moreOn July 11th, I was shopping in men's suit department. There was a female sales associate with a strong Indian accent working in a department adjacent to the men's suit department. While I was browsing, she came over to openly complain about another associate (who was out of my sightline) to another associate working in the men's suit department. She was quite loud about her frustrations. After a few minutes passed, I could hear that same associate tell another associate (who was out of my sight line), "YOU act and think like you know everything....but you DON'T!....and you are VERY rude". I'm sorry, but this isn't the type of thing I need to witness or hear while I'm shopping. It's unprofessional and childish for this female associate to act this way on the sales floor. This could have been taken off the sales floor and handled in a more adult way. I was so shocked at this associates behavior and loud tone, I simply told the associate in the men's suits, "thank you" and I left. This isn't the environment I want to be in when I'm trying to contemplate making a big purchase. I think these associates need to be reprimanded...
