I share this review lovingly, and with hopes for change.
Session Pilates is a beautiful studio, appeasing to the eye, and warm colors inside. It’s a plus, but emphasizes where it lacks in critical structure.
Since the Pilates craze in the last few years, I have seen the classes wax and wane with newcomers, intermediates, and advanced. Unfortunately, it feels as though Session has not adapted to those same students. Plano specifically has had so many instructor changes, and the class quality has suffered because of it. Session does not distinguish between beginner vs. advanced classes, which is both a downside for those with 5 classes and those with 500.
The amount of improper form I have seen personally concerns me more than anything. Some instructors are very insistent on it, others are not. Where this becomes a problem is when advanced students have a disrupted class due to extended demonstrations, and for new students, feeling like they can’t keep up or are offered zero modifications. At a minimum, every workout studio & instructor should have an awareness of its students and be keenly aware of their safety, for both petite and taller students.
Next, the membership. To put it bluntly, there is no true benefit to having a membership at this studio. There are no “perks” aside from being able to book classes 30 days out. You do not feel valued as an individual member, but rather a number. You will pay a $20 cancellation fee, even as a member (less on ClassPass) if you cancel within 12 hours. There is no leniency or class changing even if you have a membership.
Session touts itself as a “beat based studio” but has instructors that struggle to keep a rhythm or instruct to music. There is no way to identify what muscle groups you will focus on, as they do not have a schedule, even internally, it appears. Do not be surprised if you do the same inner thigh segment 3 days in a row with 3 different instructors.
Overall, Session is an okay choice for people with an athletic background and those who can learn fast. I would recommend testing out Pilates at another studio if you are working out for the first time, or have never played sports.
I love Pilates but worry that Session may not be the place for me anymore...
Read moreAbsolutely obsessed with Session Pilates! This studio is truly one of a kind—welcoming, motivating, and full of the best energy you’ll ever find. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with smiles and positivity, and the vibe is unmatched. The space is beautiful, the community is inclusive and diverse, and the energy is just contagious.
My favorite instructors—Madison, Matt, Elena, Kat, and Peyton are absolutely incredible. Each one brings their own unique style, but they all have this perfect balance of kindness and motivation. They challenge you in the best way, always encouraging you to push yourself while making sure you feel supported the entire time. They’re always switching things up with fresh moves and creative sequences, and they genuinely care about feedback and how you’re feeling.
And the playlists? AMAZING! Every class has a soundtrack that keeps you moving and motivated—seriously, it makes the time fly. These instructors bring not only the energy but also the inspiration to keep showing up and leveling up.
This is hands down the only Pilates studio I’ll ever go to. You just can’t find a more fun, cute, welcoming, friendly, and empowering place to work out. Highly, highly recommend taking a class—especially with Madison, Matt, Elena, Kat, or Peyton....
Read moreI really really enjoyed the intro session. It was a fantastic workout that gets you shaking by the end of it which I enjoy. I did get confused thinking it would be a bit easier than a normal session since it’s called a “intro session” but it was okay still. I do wish they had given us more guidance considering they knew it was our first class with them or more encouragement throughout. Felt a little lost sometimes considering everyone else knew the moves but I had to learn them quickly as we were doing them. I also wish they had more varied styles for each move for people who might be struggling with the moves. Overall, it was a great workout and I will be coming back as I enjoyed the walkthrough and energy of the place just a few things I thought I’d mention as a...
