Wild Birds Unlimited — Local services in Pleasant Hill

I was asked to review a new product the store began selling. Dishtowels with birds. And, since other customers have asked about the product the first thing is I do not recommen purchasing. At $16 retail it is not worth it unless you are going to frame the towel. In which case I recommend NOT washing the product. And, for such a large towel, the design is very small. I scanned the Avery's Home QRcode to learn more about the artist and charities. Actually, the artist is very vague about the charities portion. How much goes towards any of them. And, where are they located. Our area has a host of local artists (see Pleasant Hill Art, Wine and Music festival May 18th) that will be feaured around the corner from this store. I bet I can find a better product there. I need to mention that this cotton towel was first made in India. I wonder if this is why it is so expensive. Really, is there no local towel maker near the artist? You also need to know while it looks handpainted, it is a print, so while it is art, it is not that unique. Consider other birding gifts from the store. I consider this a waste of my money. As to squirrel (and Dove) proofing we use climbing line and string beads which squirrels and other animals cannot cross to get to the handmade platform feeders. The feeders are cleaned weekly with clorox and a power wash, then hung to dry in the sun. Birds the size of a Cowbird and smaller are able to fit through the holes without fear of predation. Beautiful store!! This place exceeded my expectations in every way. So organized and well merchandised. The associates were very kind and friendly and were actually SUPER knowledgeable about the products which sadly is a dying thing in retail. I got my first bird feeder to hang in front of my kitchen window so I can watch the birds while I do the dishes. Also makes a GREAT gift! We bought the bird pole with a bath and square flat feeding box. I added the hummingbird feeder and Bark Butter feeder. We were advised to be patient as it takes time for the birds to find the rig and get confident enough to approach it. Next morning, we had full house. Woo Hoo!
