The last time I went to this market, the fruit from a stand (berries) I purchased was moldy. I noticed the blueberries were sweating as I drove home; I also saw that the price was too good to be true. Should have known. Did they get these from the Safeway across the street?
First time I've ever received moldy fruit at a farmer's market.
Edit: I don't think it's my job to vet the product your market is selling. I was operating under the assumption that the product being brought to the market is fresh. Mold indicates that it was not fresh. I bought both blackberries and blueberries, the blackberries were molding and the blueberries were soft. Indicating that both berries were old. I'm also under the impression that farmers can do their own inspection of their own product. If a farmer is unaware they have moldy berries, it might imply that they did not grow those berries nor package them. Read moreI always walk right past this straight to downtown! They close at 2 so be there by 1 if you expect your selection on crisp greens. The vendors do an excellent job here. I love sampling and picking our fresh produce for one or two meals during the week. EBT is accepted. Prices are reasonable and quality is superb. The sense of community it brings is lovely and it helps smaller artisan vendors promote their more expensive quality items while encouraging the urban farming movement in St. John’s.
