Great Dogs of Great Falls — Local services in Potomac

I was speaking to another customer about buying grain free dog food as multiple sources (FDA and Tufts lead the research) think they’re may be a causal relationship between grain free diets (the peas/lentils) and cardiomyopathy in dogs. All I said is he should consider talking to his vet about it, when the owner interrupted to tell me I was wrong and it was breed specific. This is not hereditary DCM seen with larger breeds, but considered a secondary DCM from diet. Though research has yet to show exactly what it is, four of my vets have now recommended to not use a grain free diet. Moreover, it IS proven that a large intake of peas can cause ventricular enlargement of the heart. The woman who owns this told me “I don’t think you’ve done your research, and not to say the vets are wrong but they haven’t kept up with this.”

Who has more of a reason to keep up with research? The vets? Or the woman profiting off selling the food?

Either way, I don’t want nutritional advice from someone who runs a pet store, I’ll take my four extremely well educated and well paid vets advice.

I’ve had both our dogs (mini Aussie and a Aussiedoodle) groomed by Sunny, who does an amazing job! They always come out happy, cut exactly as requested, and adorable. Highly recommend her. Linda is always cheerful and helpful when I have questions - she is great with our dogs. The store is stocked with lots of goodies including baked and frozen treats. The only thing is to book in advance - I think they are about a month out for appointments. I would rather wait to have our dogs groomed here than take them...
