With any organization you are considering, please do your homework before you reach out. Pay particular attention to the feedback in the reviews that repeat themselves and you will get a better idea of what you can expect.
I submitted an application online for a kitten on the Meow House website in late April. I didnât hear anything back until four days later of which I received a call on a Sunday evening from a woman named Oz.
She was very pleasant and knowledgeable about cats. She asked questions about us, explained their process, and stated the kitten we were interested in would be better adopted with a companion. She said she had a couple of other cats in mind that would be a better fit for our family, would follow up with âthe fostersâ and text me a couple of pictures.
I trusted her advice and waited for a follow up.
I waited and didnât hear anything back from Oz for a few days at that point so I texted her. I didnât receive a response back until a couple of days later with a picture of one cat (adorable by the way) and asked her about the other cat she had in mind.
No response back from Oz again until a couple of days later of which I texted her no worries about contacting us back, we would look elsewhere for a cat because of the slow responses.
After that text she texted me a few minutes later with a picture of the other cat and an apology for the delayed response because she was very busy.
So we scheduled for her to bring the cat to our home to meet and decide if we wanted to move forward with a two week trial adoption.
On the morning of the adoption, she was an hour late, stating she forgot she had to make a stop on the way. She finally gets to my home with the cat and by the end, we agreed to the trial adoption for two weeks.
All was well until we noticed the cat was gaging quite a bit over the course of the first week. So we reached out to Oz to let her know and asked if she could have the cat evaluated by a vet out of concern. I texted her a video showing that the cat was apparently trying to expel a fur ball that was caught in its throat.
She agreed that she would take it to be evaluated in a few days but if it got more serious to contact her immediately then she would come right out and take it to the vet.
So she came out a few days later to pick up the cat to take it to the vet. I waited to hear back before I finally texted her the middle of the next week to get a status. I didnât get a response back until the next day. She texted me back that she didnât notice anything happening with the cat but it was doing well.
I texted her back asking what the next step was and then proceeded to call her shortly after not receiving a text back. Again, no answer.
She finally texted me back a few hours later stating that she was on a military base that didnât have good cell reception and asked if she could call me the next day. She texted me the next day (about a week after she picked the cat up from my home) to tell me she just brought the cat to her vet and would keep me posted.
At the time of this review, it is officially two weeks later⌠still no response from Oz. So we have moved on.
Based on our experience and other similar reviews Iâve observed here, communication is a BIG problem with Meow House Cat Rescue. I would have to assume that Oz is the owner of the rescue since she was the only point of contact and the organization does not have a formal email (email is a Gmail account).
My recommendation to anyone considering adopting through Meow House Cat Rescue is to stress the importance of communication throughout the process. Ask questions about some of the feedback like this that has come up.
Focusing just on the overall reviews are fine but if the negative feedback echos the same issues then itâs worth...
Read moreI was looking for the perfect cat to join my family. After doing my research, I decided Meow House was the adoption agency I wanted to work with. After filling out the application, I received a prompt reply approving us for the 2-week trial. Oz is so knowledgeable, passionate, and professional! She truly knows and adores all of the cats in their foster care.
I had originally requested two other cats, and Oz was able to explain why they would not be a great fit. She recommended Raphael, and needless to say, we all quickly fell in love with him! We didn't even wait the entire 2-week trial because he has so naturally fit in with us that we officially adopted him today!
I was thoroughly impressed that Oz drove Raphael to our home as well as spent time with us to help with his transition. She brought his toys and even gifted us with his cat carrier. The love for Raphael exuded from her and I felt so reassured that he has been receiving the care he deserves!
There is a review below about a cat from Meow House with FIV. The review is filled with false and dangerous narrative. FIV cats are not a danger! It can only spread between cats through VERY DEEP bites. Meow House was VERY open about any cat discussed and their diagnosis if they had one. I feel very secure saying that Raphael and any other cat with FIV has received the medical care they needed. I hope this helps others consider adopting a cat with FIV! I am so proud to be a FIV cat mom! Too many are passed on and they are no different from other cats!
Oz and Meow House are doing such important work and we are forever in debt to them for helping us find our sweet boy his...
Read moreTLDR: They sold me a sick cat and blatantly lied to my face about her condition. Do not adopt from them!
I used to work at a store that associated with Meow House. During that time, I bonded with and eventually adopted one of their cats. About a month after I got her home, I learned that theyâd lied to my face about her having serious medical issues and that she had an incurable and very contagious illness (Feline HIV) that theyâd chosen to ignore. As a result, sheâs now blind in one eye and has recurrent respiratory issues. As Iâm also aware that their âfoster homeâ is simply them keeping thirty some cats in their house together and unseparated, itâs very, very likely that if one has this illness, itâs spread to all the others, as it spreads through fluids, such as sharing food/water dishes and litter boxes. Since theyâve decided the vet is either unnecessary or too expensive and they chose to directly lie (they told me her at-that-point cloudy but functional eye was all scar tissue from a botched surgery and her sneezing fits were a stress symptom) I beg you, take your business elsewhere. Their cats are not healthy and not being properly cared for. If youâve already gotten a cat from them, I implore you to visit the vet and have them do a blood test. If you have more than one cat in your home, it could be very dangerous to keep them together. The illness is treatable if caught early but can cause a host of health issues if not addressed. All in all, theyâre horrible people and I wish Iâd called the SPCA on them for...
