Wong’s Tacos: The Fusion Taco Dream You Didn’t Know You Needed
What do you get when you mix the bold, bright flavors of Asian ingredients with the savory goodness of Mexican street food? A whole lot of magic at Wong’s Tacos, of course.
I had the chance to chat with chef-owner Chris Tsui about his culinary gem in the Glenlake area, which marks the first North Carolina outpost for Chris and EAT Restaurant Partners. A true hospitality pro, Chris got his start as a busboy at his father’s Chinese restaurant, and his passion for fusion cuisine was born during staff meals at one at another restaurants. There, kitchen staff started blending their favorite Asian and Mexican flavors into some seriously delicious creations.
The décor at Wong’s is as vibrant as its menu, with neon lighting and a quirky, fun atmosphere that’s just begging for your Instagram feed. And don’t miss the perfectly themed Mexican Day of the Dead skulls and Chinese zodiac symbols mashed together on the wallpaper.
We dove into a range of mouthwatering dishes, from tacos (The Jerk Chicken, Braised Korean Brisket, and El Blanco) to Wong’s Macho Nachos, East Meets West Tuna Poke Bowl, Wong’s Street Corn, and more. Everything was fresh, homemade, and packed with flavor, making it difficult to choose a favorite. On the drink side, the Purple Rain cocktail (Ketel One Vodka, Desert Pear syrup, lime) and the Luxury Wongrarita (a dreamy mix of Tres Agaves Reposado, Cointreau, Grand Marnier, and lime) were the perfect pairings with our dinner.
What really sets Wong’s apart is the staff. They’re not just friendly—they’re experts on the menu and dishes, making you feel like you’re at a fine-dining spot, even though it’s casual, lively, and super fun.
Whether you're stopping by for lunch or dinner, Wong’s has you covered seven days a week. And on cooler days, the spacious patio is perfect for sipping a margarita in the sunshine.
For those cozy nights in, you can take advantage of their take-out and catering services, bringing this fusion wonder to your next event.
Wong’s also keeps things interesting with daily drink specials and WTF (Wong Taco Features), where offbeat taco specials elevate fusion flavors to new heights.
Chris summed it up best: “We’re not just another taco place. We keep it light, keep it fun, and most importantly, we say yes—to great ideas, great people, and great food.”
Stop by to experience any of their Asian-Mexican fusion dishes and drinks, and you’ll find out why Wong’s is already a hit...
Read moreWong's surpassed my expectations. I really enjoyed my dining experience. A fellow Yelper invited me out for lunch and I gladly accepted. Parking was seamless with the small restaurant lot and attached parking garage. I love all of the LED art and the layout of this restaurant. A beautiful patio for fall dinning and cooler days. Today was a cooler day. We arrived for 12:30 and were seated promptly. It was not busy and there were plenty of dining tables to choose from. Roberto was our waiter and he was excellent. Very attentive. I decided on the Tequila Mockingbird cocktail which is very similar to a Piña colada with tequila. Very well made and beautifully garnished. My friend had a strawberry basil cocktail. I was very impressed by the presentation of the food at Wong's. They really captivated me with this. For entrees we decided on The Korean Brisket Bimbimbap bowl and my friend had Wong's Nachos. These dishes were plated beautifully. I really enjoyed my bimbimbap. Tender brisket, oyster mushrooms, pickled cucumber, radish, purple cabbage, green scallions and a perfectly cooked egg to top it off. So nourishing ! Delicious. The Wong's nachos have left me drooling. They looked so delicious. My friend was blown away. I find Wong’s prices very affordable for the value.
I anticipate returning to enjoy the patio, happy hour and Taco Tuesday. Im so happy more restaurants like Wong's, that offer a unique dining experience are coming to the Crabtree-Glenlake- Wood Valley area. So close to home and convenient for me to gather...
Read moreI enjoyed Wong's Tacos so much on my first visit less than two weeks ago that I've already been back. My Mom and I went for a late afternoon lunch/early dinner on Monday. We were the ONLY people sitting in the dining room at all. There were exactly three people sitting at the bar. So there was a grand total of five customers in the restaurant. Not surprising for the time of day.
We each ordered a margarita. We waited a bit and then ordered an appetizer. We waited a bit and then each ordered one taco and one side item. The appetizer (chips and queso) came out quickly and was as delicious as before. Then the tacos came out. My chicken taco was super dry and not good.
The. Margaritas. Never. Came. I asked our server to cancel the margarita order as we both wanted to drink our drinks before eating. I know the server had put the order in as they do it on a handheld device. The server apologized and said the bar was "backed up because there was only one bartender there". Ummmmmmm. There were FIVE people total in the whole place!! What was the bartender even doing? She was not even at the bar most of the time we were there. They DEFINITELY need a new bartender if the woman can't make drinks for five people. I am extremely disappointed that this was my Mom's experience her first time going there and I can tell you it will be a very long time before I go back if I...
