The Edition on Oberlin has been a wonderful place for me. The location is perfect - everything is right there in walking distance. The layout of my small apartment is brilliant - mine is 676 sq feet and because of the design, it feels plenty big and I have lots of space. I've lived in lots of apartments that were nice but were just a place. This one feels like a home. It's light and airy, great herringbone backsplash, granite counters and a great counter bar. Lots of cabinets. The dishwasher is very efficient and the washer/dryer works very well. Everything is new, modern, and gorgeous. I'm toward the front of the building and don't hear neighbors at all.
The young women in the office are not only friendly but also helpful. I'm a bit older (ay, a senior but not too old) and they've always offered to help. I didn't need it but since I live alone and just had surgery, it's nice to know. Also, any time I've emailed, I've gotten an answer very quickly. The maintenance guy is great. He always wears a mask, fixes things quickly and is friendly and sweet.
The lounge and open areas are gorgeous. Also the halls are kept clean. My daughter came to visit from college and getting a temporary parking sticker for her was easy peasy. Like someone mentioned, there are things, but they are few - and every place has them. Each time there is an issue, the office lets us know and addresses it quickly. As mentioned by someone else, they have also tested the fire alarm, but let us know beforehand each time. The fire alarm is loud, but I sleep like a dead person, literally have slept through a tornado, so I'm glad it'll wake me up. It's the first place I've ever lived that tests them which made me feel safe.
I visited a lot of places in this area and this is the best I have seen, for location, responsiveness of staff,...
Read moreSince the day we moved-in, we have found cockroaches in our unit. Moreover, the day we moved-in, we found a giant dead cockroach in the halls of the complex. We have been living here for more than three months and the roaches are still here, in our unit and in the complex. Just in our unit, we have probably found ~50 cockroaches.
Property management and the previous pest control company did not show the correct amount of care that was needed to deal with this situation. Our experience living here has been defined by fighting with those creatures. We have been finding them everywhere; the living room, the kitchen, the sofa, the sink, the balcony, the bathroom, the main entrance. That has implied constant complaints to property management, which clearly have not worked, a permanent burden on our mental health for fighting roaches everywhere in our home, and the economic cost associated with sprays, baits, sticky traps. On that regard, we, the tenants, although this is the responsibility of the landlord, have tried everything; four different brands of sprays, three different brands of baits, a good amount of sticky traps. Ironically, the landlord charges a monthly pest control fee. That they have kept charging every month.
We have reported this issue to the property management company (The Preiss Company) several times since we moved-in. We are tired and extremely dissatisfied with the level of service, the sanitary conditions, and the level of hygiene that this apartments complex has. Preiss offers these buildings as if they were a luxury multifamily complex, our experience here has been subpar and well below the expectations of such offering.
After living here for more than three months and if I had to define The Edition On Oberlin with one word, that word would be:...
Read moreInitially, my boyfriend and I were super excited to move here - it’s an awesome location, and the complex was a Greystar property at the time (we love Greystar). Within the first year of our lease, however, the property switched hands and unfortunately, our experience has gone downhill ever since. There have been multiple safety issues with several exterior doors (which are supposed to be secure and accessed via fob) remaining broken for days, weeks, even months at a time, allowing anyone to access the building at any time, or preventing residents from accessing or exiting the building via the broken door altogether. Broken glass also sat in the stairwell next to the parking garage for weeks - a hazard to residents and their pets. Additionally, there’s a lack of basic, regular upkeep of the property. This large hole (located on the left wall leading into the common area) has been here for weeks. There’s always something funky going on with lighting in the halls. The carpeting throughout the building has become stained and dingy, the walls are heavily scuffed, and a lot of the equipment in the gym has begun to malfunction (like the treadmills). Some of the people in the office are very nice and helpful, but I would still heavily suggest to anyone looking at apartments in the area to consider any other property/options. My boyfriend and I both think that you can get much better value for the price and a true “luxury” experience elsewhere, where management will take initiative in keeping the property both...
