I don’t usually write bad reviews, but my experience at plato’s closet time and time again has been poor. I’ve been shopping here since the old establishment and have continued to shop here since then. I’ve sold with plato’s closet 4 times now, and every time I have had multiple girls “help” me with attitudes. I have worked in customer service for 6 years and I know that it is not difficult to be kind. On another note, I sold with them today and felt extremely rushed, and the girl who helped me had a very unwelcoming look on her face. I understand having a bad day, but if you are at your job, getting something from a customer, the least you can do is change your tone. I then waited around the store for 30 minutes because that’s how long it said it would take them. I was cool with waiting, but I could see the girls sitting behind the counter just talking with eachother instead of doing their job. I then watched someone walk in with their clothes and had them immediately get sorted. by the 30 minute mark, i was fed up because i had somewhere to be but i never spoke to the workers with disrespect. I told one of the girls that I would have my boyfriend pick up the money and she said it was fine , but she kept interrupting me and seemed extremely po when i came up and said “hey, it says my clothes were supposed to be done at-“. and i get that people can be rude during these moments, but i was not, and she still had a look on her face. on top of that, it took them an hour to go through my stuff even though i watched them go through things recently set on the counter. Lastly, I brought in atleast 8 items and I got $17 back. the items were brands like ralph lauren, nike, american eagle, rue 21, etc. and I got $17. I also had nike sweatpants and american eagle shorts that they didn’t take for some reason, and they preached high demand brands. I brought 4 tops in one time and received $22. I could’ve sold these items on depop and made $17 just for the ralph lauren shirt. After this experience, Im not too sure that I will continue shopping with plato’s because of the lack of respect I received from two girls and the inconsistency in their selling. Along with the items I have brought in being sold for twice the amount they bought them from me for. Don’t get me wrong, I am a supporter of small businesses and thrifting, but if you want to keep your customers, teach some of your employees how to...
Read moreThis is basically the best thrift store in Rapid City (and i get it. It's a consignment store. But in Rapid, this is as close to a "decent" thrift store you're gonna get)...and it would be a bad thrift store in most cities.
Customer Service here is, at best, hit and miss. We needed to return something and I got one of the biggest eye-rolls I've ever witnessed in customer service and a snotty, "can you help them out" to another associate. I was shocked. No problems returning other than the garbage attitude from the first associate.
The prices are all over the board but mostly too high for a thrift store. You could find a really good price on an item or more likely, you're going to find a just-below-retail price on most items.
I'd say that Plato's Closet doesn't want to be seen as a "thrift store", but that is what they are. Unfortunately, you're going to pay a price for their longing to be considered better than a thrift store. And in Rapid City, this is as good as it gets for second hand clothing.
They have a men's section. But I'd say it's probably 80% women's and 20% men's.
All in all, I loathe going into this store mainly because of the customer service and then also partly because of the prices. I give it 2 stars because it's the best thrift...
Read moreABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED!! I found a pair of nice jeans and loved how they fit until I noticed they were covered in BLOOD. There was period stains completely through the denim. How can you sell this??? It was upsetting because I really liked the jeans until I saw this, which is so disgusting.
I had to wait in line for several minutes despite only one other person in line and 3 workers behind the counter. No friendly service or anything. I understand the workers might be busy with a different task, but they could at least say that— it’s not obvious to the customers standing there waiting.
When I presented these jeans to the cashier out of concern, she was shocked. Another worker laughed and said someone must not have looked through them properly. They showed a manager who just asked if I wanted them with a 20% discount. That was all? I’m not going to pay $12 for obviously blood stained jeans??? That is so nasty and unsanitary.
I understand this store sells slightly used items, but I find it absolutely disgusting that this happened and the service as well. Previous reviews said the workers treat the customers as an inconvenience and I agree. The service...
