On the Border — Restaurant in Rapid City

This was the worst service I have ever had in my entire life. Someone needs to tell the blonde waitress who was serving us that 9:30 is an hour and a half until close time on Fridays and she needs to stay off her phone until then. It only took about 5 minutes to get our food when she finally took our order(about 20 minutes after we sat down), but when she brought our food she spilled my dad's beans and instead of offering to replace them she tried to act like she didn't realize it(really wish we had taken pics). I had to ask for more chips 4 times before I was finally acknowledged and she finally brought us some, my dad asked for more water 3 times and she never got him any so I guess if you want something you just have to ask for everything 4 times in this restaurant? We were extremely close to walking out without paying because after we got done eating it took more than 15 minutes for her to come check on us and give us the bill(only reason we kept waiting is because I was not raised to walk out without paying). There were only 2 other tables with people while we were there and it took over an hour from the time we sat down to the time she finally brought us the bill because she was sitting in the back on her phone. I am 29 years old and this was the first time in my adult life that I didn't leave a tip. I really can't put into words how terrible this experience was, we choose to eat here because we have always liked the "on the border" chips and I never even knew they had restaurans but I will never eat at an on the border restaurant again. Looking back im not even slightly surprised that there were only 2 other tables with people on a friday night if this is the service everyone gets. WOULD NOT...

What an absolute joke of a business! We phoned in an order and was told 20-25 minutes, no problem I headed down and was there about 25 after the call. Now we are in the middle of a pandemic and should be practicing social distancing and there was 6 people inside the small to go area, all within 2ft of each other, so I asked if my order was ready and was told they would check, I told them I would wait outside. After 5+ minutes and another 4 people pushing their way in I stuck my head in and asked again, same response (I’ll check and let you know). w Well after another 5 minutes and more people pushing their way in (there must be 10+ people in this tiny area now) I went back to my truck and called and asked if my food was finally ready and again I was told they will check but this time they asked for my number so they could call me back, as you can guess they didn’t and I couldn’t get ahold of anyone, so 30 minutes after my food was meant to be ready I left and even now over an hour after our food was meant to be ready they still haven’t called. I like On the Border but no one should have to wait that long and especially after asking two people and calling to get an update I’m sorry but I’m beyond disappointed! Now I understand that today is a busy day for Mexican food and that’s part of the reason we ordered early, our food should have been ready 4:50pm. We walked in tonight to have a bite to eat. Waited 10 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge our existence and they were far from busy. When we finally got seated we were greeted by what looked like a Juggalo from the Insane Clown Posse. Chick had more ink on her than the New York Times. Her eyebrows were even waxed and replaced with horribly done tattooed eyebrows! Has no business being in the food industry, was absolutely disgusting. Any capable wait staff would know that if the customer is still looking at the menu, then they aren't quite ready to order yet. We were hassled every 3 minutes asking if we were ready. When we finally were ready, Miss Juggalo was nowhere to be found and we had to ask another server to help us. We were brought stale tortilla chips with no salt and salsa that absolutely had no taste what so ever. It was spicy hot and that was it. It took 45 minutes to get our food and when it came to the table, it had been sitting out so long the soft shell tortillas were hard, the salsa was dry, the rice was dry and cold, the cheese was solidified, and the re-fried beans looked like re-re-fried beans. And that was just my mom's order. They screwed up on everything I had asked for on my order and I sent it back. By the time they got back with half of my order, we were sick of it, made our complaints and got up and left without eating a thing other than the chips offered to us when we sat down.
