The structure and location of the building is definitely unique. Old Armory converted to one full size rink and a practice/puddle behind. The seating and viewing is mostly upstairs. 3 long row of seating on the entrance size for about 150 people with standing about 1/2 way down both size overlooking the ice surface. Parking on the weekend is fine as there are spots out front and parking in the train station lot. Not sure how it is during the week as everything is permit only parking. Entrance is ramped for all to enter. In the lobby is a video screen with locker room assignments. As you enter down the hall is a snack shop with many choices and reasonably priced. As you keep walking the skate rental is back another long hallway. Locker rooms are small but they have enough for multiple teams. Pro shop is essential only with skate sharpening... very small. Ice is well maintained. Unique zamboni door that is raised up with board and glass attached. Benches are adequate size for 18 skaters and coaches. Penalty box and score keepers area is on the same side. Puddle looks to be used for small practices and younger kids games a definite plus so not to tie up the big rink. Large Generals (local team) lounge upstiars.... very cool. Bathrooms are clean and good size. Rink is cold in all viewing locations. Other than parking...
Read moreWent here today for school event. There is no seating near Ice skate rental area. When I asked why, I was told to keep clutter out of the hallway: mind you, the entire hall was filled with people sitting on the floor trying to get skates on. Obviously, this approach isn’t working because it was the same when I was a teen 15 years ago. Why not try to help the parents out that are bringing money into your establishment and not make them walk to another room just to get skates on. ESPECIALLY considering I was given two right skates, am I expected to lug two children all the way across the establishment again just to get a new skate? Second, while on the ice my toddler needed a walker. A group of teens were literally just sitting on them. I went over and asked if she could use one, this continued a 5 minute argument about who was giving up their walker(that they were just hanging out on). Idk maybe it’s just me, but someone should be on the ice to make sure this kind of stuff doesn’t happen. We left 35 minutes in after walking through the doors because it was a disaster from start to finish. Another mom left too because she was so angry about the skate rental area being so far away from...
Read moreThe people that own this armory building Doug and Leslie Brooks are bad neighbors. They have a loud machine on top of the building that bothers the entire neighborhood. They have a sound proof wall for it. (Which they refused to build for years and were then forced to by the state for noise violations). Now they have taken a part of the wall down and after politely being asked to put it back, they have refused. These people have no respect for their neighbors whatsoever.
Those of us who live near this building put up with traffic generated by this building... people park their cars in a no standing zone to unload and block the street. We put up with their dumpster being slammed when it is emptied at 5 am. Now they are refusing to simply stand up a part of a wall that would cut down on noise. Several of the neighbors have asked. So if you happen to skate there... ask Doug and Leslie Brooks why they can't be...
