Couple things to note before I write my review: I was fully aware that a student was going to cut my hair and I got a mens haircut (listed as a "clipper cut").
Short Story: Hands down the worst haircut I have ever received in my life and the entire process took approx 1 hr and 45 mins.
Long Story: I came across this place through a Renton Facebook group as people had recommended them. I looked them up and it seemed like they had great reviews, but I wish I had known that the majority of the stylists specialize in women's hair. Booked and appt online and checked in at the desk. First impressions, the place seemed very clean/nice. The receptionists were friendly and check-in was fast. Once the stylist was ready (a young lady who seemed VERY nervous) she grabbed me and had me sit at her station. She was very nice and friendly, but it was apparent that she was not used to cutting men's hair (she was having troubles with the equipment and she even admitted it at the end of the cut that she RARELY cuts men's hair). I told her what I wanted which was a 1-2 on the sides and about 1/2 inch on the top. She ended up cutting the same length of hair from top to bottom at first. Tried better to explain it, so she trimmed up the sides a bit, but still couldn't get it right. She had the teacher come multiple times to help and it seemed like the teacher would do just enough to correct it, but then the stylist would proceed to make it even worse. It was truly 1 step forward, 10 steps backwards. After a very long time of the stylist trying to make it right, I finally gave up. I had her wash my hair and she made a few more "edits" and I left. I felt bad cuz she seemed so nervous so I still paid for my service and went on my way. My hair is still jacked up! I got some hair on the sides that's longer than others, the cut on the top is completely uneven, the bangs are terrible, everything is just terrible. Look at the meme I attached and that is how my hair looks and how my experience went! I immediately booked an appointment at Details (been there before and they are VERY good btw). If you are a male, I warn you... DO NOT COME HERE!!!! Yes the place is clean and the people are nice, but the haircut is not worth the $12 or the time. As I said above, hands down the absolute worst haircut I've ever received in my life. Sorry if I'm being a bit rude, but it was absolutely terrible.
There was also an older gentlemen who was getting his haircut right next to me and complained MULTIPLE times that he did not like his haircut. The teacher had to come by multiple times as well because he wasn't pleased.
My advice to Evergreen, PLEASE assign stylists that actually are wanting to learn how to cut men's hair. It's an absolute disservice to your customers to have someone who has ZERO experience cutting men's hair, actually...
Read moreMy experience at Evergreen Beauty College was extremely disappointing. The school showed a complete lack of professionalism and organization from the very beginning. Important student records were constantly lost — including my own, and the only reason I made it through was because I kept copies of every single document myself. Without my own paperwork, I would have been completely screwed by their disorganization. Nothing ever seemed to run smoothly, and it felt like students were always the ones paying the price for the school’s mistakes.
The instructors often lacked the necessary knowledge to properly teach us, and instead of learning from them, I spent most of my time teaching myself. They cover only the most basic information, leaving you completely underprepared for the industry. Rather than taking responsibility for their mistakes, the staff consistently refused to hold themselves accountable and would guilt trip students instead, making every issue feel like it was somehow our fault.
The teacher-to-student ratio was absolutely unacceptable. We would have to wait up to 45 minutes just to get a consultation and a required signature to even start a service. If you were doing lightening services, it was even worse — you had to wait all over again every time you needed more lightener, since we weren’t allowed to get it ourselves. It felt like they went out of their way to slow down our progress and waste our time.
To be fair, there were two instructors who genuinely cared about the students and wanted to help us succeed, but they were either not given the proper resources or were simply too overwhelmed by the ridiculous number of students to make much of a difference. It was clear that the system set them up to fail right alongside the students.
Adding to the frustration, instructors talked down to students and treated us like children, creating an uncomfortable and unprofessional environment. One of the most upsetting parts of my experience was when I was forced to continue working with an injury, even after providing a doctor’s note stating I shouldn’t be taking clients. My health and well-being were completely disregarded.
Even though I eventually passed my state boards, it was barely, and only because of the limited training we received during Phase 3. We were only given two full walkthroughs to practice, and the rest of the time was spent reading a textbook with no real guidance, just hoping we were studying the right material.

Read moreThis is for the salon. The last student I had wasn’t supervised at all and butchered my hair. I asked the student to preserve my length and to cut no more than a trim, add in some long layers with some soft face framing, and now I have a weird mullet and my hair is 4-5 inches shorter. It’s also uneven and the layers aren’t blended at all. It’s truly terrible and the worst haircut I’ve had in like 15 years, and I’ve gone to other beauty schools in that time.
I didn’t notice until I got home how terrible it is, but no one checked the student’s work before I was brought up to the front to check out, and both sides aren’t even equal length. Everyone I’ve shown the past couple of days has been like, “yikes! Where did you get your hair done so I know never to go there” :(
I’ve had great luck with Evergreen Beauty College students, up until this last appointment this week. The last student before that who did my balayage didn’t do the best job either, but at least I could hide the messed up bits with the way I part my hair. You can’t hide the hideousness of my current haircut. Now I need to go spend a bunch of money elsewhere getting this mess fixed & have to wait like 6 months to grow it out again.
I’ve had amazing students in the past and instructors would actually check their work and check in from time to time, but that’s not happening anymore. I don’t know what happened, but the instructors no longer supervise the student’s work and don’t check it before having you go up to the front to pay. If you think you’re saving some money, you’re not because you’ll have to pay more money to get it fixed by actual professionals.
Edit: I raised my rearing from 1 to 3 stars. The salon called me and apparently my student went rogue. They were supposed to check in with the instructor & somehow got away with not having anyone check their work. An instructor did what she could to fix my hair. I’m not thrilled by how short it has to be cut to even it out and I ended up committing to bangs a never planned on getting, but I appreciate the effort the instructor put into not...
