Early this morning while checking in, I was told my membership payment was late, Hmmm. My response was with auto pay that’s between the bank and Planet Fitness. She (Receptionist )shared my account was 1 day late. This felt like she was chastising me. I felt like I was being judged before doing your homework. Automated payment is automated payment. I’m too old to have crappy credit. I have top-notch credit. I don’t like to be accused of things such as this.. I asked to speak to a mgr and she as much brushed me off. I went up to the front desk 3 separate times. Finally, a female came up stating she was the manager and said that the person that was talking to me was new. The approach felt like she wanted to just brush it off. I work hard with my credit as due most people my age to get blown off by she’s new put me off. When I gave her (Manager) my home phone, she looked up my account. She said oh you’re fine. That she was new in her position. I walked away, still a little miffed. She might wanna think about retraining her new team on how to approach these kind of things instead of just spewing your behind on your payment. Wow, she speaking to me as if I am a person who overlooks paying my bills, timely. I can assure you that is not the case here. Is planet Fitness hurting for members, is this why dues were increased. The receptionist offended my wife, stating it one day late, on our membership payment. Learning how to communicate is an essential skill to prevent this kind of stuff from reoccurring in front of other members. Not to apologize is another issue. My credit is top notch, and it was offensive. I wasn’t aware it was a female manager in the past it’s been Males. You guys have been going through your staff quite frequently around there. Training is an essential process to all successful Business owners. It is also a necessary tool to stop the rotation of staff. Increasing hourly wage could reduce your turnover. I understand business is business, however your reception staff are crucial to success. Most of the time the reception staff will greet incoming customers. In future I would suggest for your team to approach members in a private area. If the auto payment was set up during my initial enrollment. I don’t appreciate being told in front of others people. Read moreI don’t usually write reviews unless my experience was vividly pleasant, or unpleasant. Today I had an unpleasant experience with the manager, Jared. Finding multiple negative reviews mentioning his name honestly makes this easier to write.
The regular staff here are all friendly and welcoming. I’ve been coming here since summer of 2022 and I’ve never had a problem as every staff member I’ve had an encounter with always strived to ensure a positive experience for me.
I woke up to a $50 charge from Planet when I was sure I had a classic membership. When I called to address the issue, the sweet employee on the phone acknowledged my frustrations but unfortunately was unable to refund me, due to policy. I will admit that it is a mistake on my end for not fully reading the agreement when signing up for my membership. I was charged the $40 annual fee, which is nonrefundable due to it being in the agreement. They did leave a note with my name and phone number, but even mentioned that Jared usually doesn’t return phone calls. That screams red flag, lol. His employees don’t even like him!
I decided to come into the gym instead of waiting on a phone call that I probably won’t get. I find Jared, and he assisted me in such a nonchalant manner. I expressed my worries and concerns about the billing issue since I’m unemployed and won’t be for about another week. I was in distress as any other broke student would be, not knowing how I was going to pay this overdraft. In the end, Jared gave me two months of free access to this Planet Fitness as compensation. It is not the outcome of the issue I’m upset about. It’s the way this manager expressed absolutely no empathy towards a guest in need of help and if anything, seemed annoyed to be doing his job. My friend was with me and even confirmed she saw how utterly annoyed his expression and tone seemed. Read moreI really wanted to write a 5-star review for this club, but unfortunately recent events have changed my mind.
I joined this club on a pre-paid membership, and when I started the membership I asked if I could transfer to a different club down the road, as I knew I'd be moving. I was told I'd have to wait three months to transfer, but that it would be no problem.
Well, five months later I'm unable to transfer to another club - and the management is essentially ignoring that I was TOLD by a member of their staff that I could transfer. They "apologize" that I was given "misinformation" but cannot act to do anything to support the information I was provided. Essentially, they are saying it's OK that one of their associates lied. They aren't obligated to worry about it.
I've rarely felt so unvalued as a member. The manager even said, "I'll try to get your membership transferred and if that doesn't happen I'll process a refund." After not being called back by the manager, I had to call three more times to keep the process going. On my penultimate call, the manager said, "I'll contact the accounting office and call you back in 15 minutes."
Then...crickets. No call back.
So I called back the next day and was told they couldn't transfer my membership and couldn't offer a refund due to the contract I signed. So I guess they don't care that their employees lie in order to get a membership - or that the manager doesn't return phone calls when he says he will.
Time for a new gym.
UPDATE: As of February 15, with the work of a new manager (Chris), this Planet Fitness made it right and provided a refund based on all that had happened. I am very grateful for his work on this - and have changed my rating. I'm glad this happened on many levels, but one reason is really did like the gym...
