Some food items are priced great. Depending on the time of year, selection and demand. Prices will skyrocket. Giant eagle brand items are always competitive against and food store chain, or local grocers. Its up to you, do you like the way the make it. (Taste) Giant eagle prides yourself in being a clean and 4 star grocer and food chain market. their selections are always fresh other than some select seasonal items but they always have different things than what you would normally find in most local grocery store venders. In the Johnstown area yes they are priced higher than most of the other grocery stores. They're deli selections for example; Lebanon Bologna is an absolute Pennsylvanian Delicacy beyond anything comprehensible. Disregarding the snobbery and the finicky child like eating adult) It is the highest priced fresh deli meats in the giant eagle selection. At nearly $12 a pound. It's price trounces the finest pastrami or roast beef . Or any other high end lunchmeats currently being offered. This price was at 11/18/22. The scalp ave location has the added benefit of a hardware store on the left side of the building. I recommend this & Giant Eagle.
Just like any other responsible American consumer . look at the prices and look at the selection . Please don't base your decision of going to a location, Strictly because they are the cheapest. & where...
Read moreGiant Eagle has invested a lot of money in the renovation of the Johnstown Richland Township facility. They continue to make changes and improvements; however, the produce department, in particular the fresh green vegetable section, remains well below expectations. Green vegetables often seem to be received in poor condition, yellow and wilted, even as the staff are putting them in their bins. Even worse, below-standard vegetables are left in the bins for days and priced at premium levels as they continue to rot. Giant Eagle district managers need to pay a visit to the competition across Scalp Ave. The Market Basket produce department always has fresh-looking vegetables at prices generally significantly less costly than Giant Eagle. Either your ordering/delivery process is flawed or you have some serious issues with store produce department maintenance processes and/or staff management and training. No excuses... attention to detail counts! Pay another visit to a Wegman's Supermarket produce department and take better notes this time. Wegman's Supermarkets set the quality standard that all large chains should...
Read moreThis is by far the nicest Giant Eagle in town. And for that I would give 5 stars. However the rude cashier ruined it for me. I came in 10 mins before close to grab a few things. I was loudly advised that they were closing when i entered and given a dirty look. I assured the cashier that I just needed a few things. After literally running through the aisles to get my items I arrived at the register and the same cashier yet again gave me a dirty look. No "hello", "how are you? Nothing. I was given yet another dirty look when I asked to enter my phone number in place of my card. There were 2 other customers in line behind me that also got the death stare. After paying for my items my change was slammed into my hand. No "thank you", "goodnight". Nothing yet again. She had not one word of conversation with me. There are other grocery stores in town and I don't have to shop at Giant Eagle but it is my favorite store . I would not go back to that location. You should treat your last customer with just as much kindness as your first! This was August 30th 2019 at the 1451 Scalp...
