When considering buying a Clayton Home we were sold a very nice dream. The sales department particularly Hannah went above and beyond to help us in every possible way. It wasn't until the paperwork was signed that the nightmare began. We knew that the land had to have a driveway septic etc done and got the quote from “their” person. Fast forward to them getting finished. I am not happy with the final product for multiple reasons listed below. I have a pond in my driveway for days after it rains as pictured below not to mention they didn't put an adequate amount of rock on the driveway because it is mostly mud now. Our yard both front and back flood. Under the house which is set on a janky block foundation holds water. Had Kevin out to the house before the block was finished and he was more concerned that they had left before completion than that they started in the middle when you are supposed to start on the corners and the block is not level in multiple areas. In multiple spots around the home, there are gaps between the siding and the block in some spots big enough that I can put my finger in between them. Mentioned I was concerned that under the house holding water would eventually lead to mold in the home. Mind you all of this was mentioned at the “welcome home” we had with Janet. She assured us these issues would be taken care of. This was in August of 2024. Fast forward to months later today February 1st, 2025. We have had to speak to Kevin on multiple different occasions to try to address these issues because no one has been sent back. We spoke to him for the first time on October 29th, 2024 he said we would schedule a time to go over these issues. He came to our home on November 4th without calling and saying he was coming after he said he would schedule a time to come see the home. He did not address all of our issues and quickly let us know that we could make a “welcome home” list a mile long it doesn’t mean he has to honor it. Our driveway looks awful it was not cut out properly and none of it is even. It holds water in multiple spots. In some spots, you cannot even see gravel only mud. The resolution he had to the water under the house was to drill into the side of the foundation and place a drainpipe that leads out right on the side of our driveway. Ultimately leading to the driveway holding more water and washing what little bit of gravel we have away. His solution to the driveway holding water was to put a “trench” through my neighbor's yard. The neighbor politely agreed with the stipulation that if he had something going through his yard it would be covered back up and done correctly. They agreed and pictured below was their solution. He said he would bring another load of gravel to widen the driveway because the first on got covered up and they had not widened it like I had requested before the signing of the contract. He said that on November 7th, 2024. It is the beginning of February and the rock has yet to be delivered. When touching base, I am being told that the weather has impacted the last few months despite having several weeks that the ground was dry enough to fix. I guess making more money is more important than fixing prior obligations. We have yet to have someone back out here to address these issues. He will not "touch base" unless you get ahold of them. The last email I received from Kevin was on 12/11/24 stating that he would have the driveway gravel out this week or next and here it is 02/01/25. Just letting you know before you think you’re going to have a beautiful home and it ends up...
Read moreStart was great. Plenty of communication between sales/hannah and us. Answered all our questions. Wife and I picked a home that was perfect for our needs so we figured let’s do this. So this is when the kicker starts. There land excavator/there guy looked at our land and said it would be a big big job doing everything. Wife and I said ok can it be done. He assured us it could be and it was no problem but it would take lots of dozer work. Ok sure no big deal let’s make it happen. This big big job and lots of dozer work was done in 3days with the smallest excavator you have ever seen and a bobcat. Over $30,000 in charges on that part. So from the excavation work in my front yard they piled up rocks as big as cars and just left them. So I called the excavation guy/there guy about the rock. His response was what else do you want me to do with them. lol not leave them in my front yard. The excavator guy also kept putting off our top soil for our septic work. 20 tri axle dump truck loads of top soil. I found someone else to do it for me cheaper. I told them I’d need my money back for the top soil. His response was well ok but you’ll have to pay taxes on it if I write the check lol. It was my money to begin with. Since it was Clayton homes GUY they paid him for work that wasn’t even done. Ok so moving on. Our home was delivered to our land and just dropped in the lot. Took them weeks to come back and put them together. Once the home was together it just sat on the property for another week or two. My wife and I came out everyday after work and looked to see if anything had been done. Normally it was a no. Moving forward again. House was move in ready so they said. Siding Roof Underpinning Windows Trim Base board Screens Front door Back door Lighting inside and out Leaks under all sinks Water heater leaking Our ceilings were painted to cover up mold. This list goes on and on. I’ve contacted Kevin the store manager my wife has also made attempts to contact Kevin. When I did make contact with Kevin his response to coming and fixing the laundry list was what else needs to be fixed!!! Like he thought he’d done a good job. He argued about the ceiling saying that’s how it is from the factory that it’s not paint. He took my number like he doesn’t already have it on file. Said he’d get back to me so that we could schedule a day to look at it. Not fix everything but LOOK. So I’m still waiting on that call from a week ago so that Keven can argue with me further about how no one painted the ceilings.
So in conclusion if your looking for a home go elsewhere. They treat you like a rockstar until you sign paperwork. After that and they have your money well you’re basically gonna have to call everyday to get anything done. This list of problems goes on much further than what I’ve written. But if this review saves one person from waisting there money with Clayton...
Read moreUpdate: We refused an offer to take money to remove our review offered to us by Kevin the new Manager and all house work ceased immediately after.
Several months after our house was placed we still had carpet torn up where they "fixed it", and various other issues.
Original review: We have definitely had an adventure with Clayton Homes in Richmond, Ky. We have been lied to, told we were overreactive by Jenny the sales rep that helped us with our home. We have had nothing but a horrible experience and until I filed a claim with corporate and called them almost every day nothing was done.
To start, this is our first home. We weren't told about paying for septic permits, water meter etc. Okay we covered that $900 dollar cost. After signing papers and all of those small issues the real problems began. We told Jenny we needed to move in August 1st, we were assured this was no problem as it was early June when we started this process, it would only take 3-6 weeks to drop and finish the house. It is now September and the HOUSE IS STILL NOT DONE. The pictures show what has been done to the house after the contractor was just here 3 days ago and some are previous, but still not fixed. But when I called the repair list I sent was almost completed? Really?
They dropped our house off 2 days after what they were supposed to, they "lost" the siding and had to order new so we had and still have tore up trim and water damage to our side door because of this. We have trim that still hasn't been put on that should have come with the house but they have to order it which will take weeks?
Not only that but they never know who, when or what their contractors are doing. Lucikly we have cameras inside and outside our house until they are done with it, and we caught one of their hired contractors going around our property petting our horses, and other animals. When we called the office [huge liability for this lady and she did NOT have permission] they acted like it was nothing and she didn't mean anything by it.
All but 1 of our faucets leaked for 2 weeks before they changed them and they didn't even match what was in the house so now we have to wait on more. Getting in contact with anyone was a huge process until we filed a claim with corporate. We just want our house finished the right way at this point so we never have to see or talk to these people again. We are tired, stressed, and just done with this whole horrible process. The only person who has truly helped has been the one contractor Chris who personally called me and offered to come and help and walk through our house with any concerns. They went through a managment change and only a few things have been done to fix any issues but that wasn't until corporate was called. We will see what becomes of our next appointment to...
