Hot Topic — Local services in Rockford Township

ACCUSED OF SHOP LIFTING!(Would rate less if i could) i went into hot topic today to buy some rings and got accused of shop lifting (barely left one spot in the store) didnt ask what happened just banned me and my cousin who is 18 and had nothing to do with it besides being beside me and seeing that i was not doing anything wrong, There was a singular ring hanging out of its cardboard package, on the brink of falling out completely so i tried it on before getting ready to take it up front incase i liked it and it WAS cute so i was like “ahh if it fits maybe i will buy it”. So i had the 30$ worth of stuff i knew i was going to buy in one hand and in my other OPEN hand was the ring, i put the package it fell out of back where i found it and stood up open handed to give it to the register(keep in mind i was right next to it in the first place) bc it did not fit and i could not put it back, the second i stood up and the second i did this rude lady named AJ that worked there snatched it out of our hands. My cousins merchandise too, and said in i quote (get out of my store) and every time i tried to explain the situation and how (i can see how this could look wierd but me and my cousin who saw the whole thing can assure you its an innocent mistake) she basically pushed my 18 yr old cousin out of the store (im 16 next month) and now we are BANNED?! Its not stealing or shop lifting if i never left the store or one spot?! Treated us horribly, And when my family went back to speak to her she said “oh yeah the girls who were stealing”. ○!ACCUSED OF SHOPLIFTING!○ Me and my little cousin went in because she wanted to buy some rings. While we were shopping she found a ring that was out of the package so she looked for a bit before showing an employee. As she stood up to show somebody, an employee who I assume is the manager, A.J.(didn't have a name tag but when asked that's what she said)came up and snatched it out of her hand, made us put everything back, and told us to leave. As we turned around, she put her hand on me to usher me out, she treated us like children, even though i am 18 years old and assumed that we stole when we never moved from the floor. She was very rude and never listened to our story. We were also banned because we stood up for ourselves respectfully. We are seeking legal advice to see what we can do. Well I hate to say it but I rarely shop here because I don't like 90% of box lunches merchandise, and that's primarily all they sell at hot topic now since it's the same company. I'm surprised they haven't killed off hot topic as a brand yet. I hate to see what's become of the store. Granted if your not into emo/punk/goth fashion, you probably don't care or even notice.
