Rockville Town Square Outdoor Ice Skating — Local services in Rockville

I love this place! Yes, it’s small, but it’s not like they can expand the grass area to make the rink bigger! But of course more space would be great.

Last I went was on Thanksgiving - while it was nice to be able to get out of the house & have a relatively spacious rink, I did worry about the employees who didn’t have the holiday off. They zamboni’d the ice approximately every 45 minutes or so (in the 2 hrs I was there), which was nice. Staff was friendly as well!

The reason I give it a 4 stars is because of the ice skates. I’ve been going to this ice rink since it first opened ~10 or more years ago(?). I’m sure they’ve updated the skates since when they first opened but that’s my only real complaint. I have wider feet, which is one thing, but they’re overall uncomfortable (which I see in others’ reviews too!). I asked for a woman’s 8.5 which was way too small (I wore thin socks) - but 8-8.5 is my actual shoe size. I asked for a 9, but it was pretty big. I have thick ankles but even though I tied my left skate tightly, it was so loose, I sort of worried for my safety.

It’d give it a 5 if they could update their selection & provide a bit more comfortable skates :)

This place is awesome!! The management is great! Just happened to notice the negative review left three days ago by somebody else, I am very shocked because we have been skating here for three years. Mike has always been nothing but helpful. He is courteous, skillful, and organized. I have never seen him maskless this season and we come here every other day.. He was the reason we have been season pass holders all past few years. When we first skate here this season, we were told by Mike to wear masks in the rink area and changing area. Staff constantly clean the railings and table area and have a good crowd control. All of them wear masks this whole time. We were season pass holders last few years and comes almost every other day this year, all of the staff have been adhering rules since the pandemic and enforcing them accordingly. We have private lessons in cabin John as well. It’s a pain to reserve sessions on active Montgomery. In addition, comparing the indoor rink I’d much prefer my family to skate outdoor. Very negative due to poor customer service especially due to a young shorter girl with tight curls. The time printed out on our tickets began at the time I got there so we were unable to use the extra time we had prepared to get ready. They had a lot of trouble understanding that we had two orders which resulted in wasted time and them not having our skates ready. When we were finally all ready they had to clear the ice. Then when she let us on she informed us that we had 10 minutes left even though several of us were just getting on the ice for the first time. Several of my kids were skating for the first time ever. I also had a friend and her son from Kansas City. After the 10 minutes she continued to hunt me down. When I explained the situation she just said it wasn't her problem even though it actually was directly related to her service. When I called her out on being rude, she threatened to call the police. So due to this staff member, I paid $113 for 15 minutes of skating. Great place, issues with...
