Bought an amp from this place that's supposed to sound good. The amp was sold as being "recently serviced" after waiting an additional amount of time for a 'New cap job' I finally received the amp. Upon receiving the amp I was only able to turn it up at a very low volume due to having neighbors on the other side of the wall. I got home and turned the amp up. from noon on the volume know to fully turned up nothing happens, additionally the amp does not break up nicely and sounds like trash, I tested all the tubes on two different tube testers and none of them tested 'good'. One tested 'weak' and the other five tested 'poor'. Furthermore the wires coming from the transformer to the speaker are brittle and crusty. One terminal even broke loose from the old wire. A simple chop stick test shows that the cap job has very poor soldering. there are two pieces of electricians tape on a resistor and the amp cuts out and gets fuzzy when it moves. it looks as if a middle schooler learned how to solder a few hours ago then tried to work on this amp. the tech was very incompetent and the owner is dishonest for letting a poorly fixed product be sold, then telling me I had buyers remorse because the amp I received is a pile of garbage. Upon receiving it it sounded terrible. It needed 296$ worth of work from a REAL tech to get it to the condition it should have been when I received it. Ray at Merle's music is a liar. Buy elsewhere, this guy will make excuses and lies.

I was visiting the area temporarily for job training and really missed having a guitar to hone my skills on (acoustic). I've been playing some type of instrument for 17 years (piano, saxophone, guitar). I've been wanting to invest in an electric guitar for awhile. I did my research, browsed the pawn shops, and decided to check out Merle's. I went to do a preliminary check of what they had, and Ty helped me out a ton. He really took the time to explain to me exactly what I should be looking for and showing me great deals in my price range. I came back the next week, and he remembered my name! I settled on a Charvel DS-2 and couldn't be happier. I even bought a Roland cube amp, cords, picks, and a gig bag not just because I needed it, but because I was so pleased with their customer service. Their prices are great. I went home and did my homework and they easily are the best deal on or off the internet.

What I've noticed about this shop, is that when they take in used intruments, they fix them up and price them very reasonably. All the used guitars I played were in great condition. My amp was used and sounded great.

I especially like supporting local music shops because they're the ones who have that personal connection to the community and care about sharing their passion for music with others. Merle's is an outstanding business and I recommend it to anyone within a 100 mile radius! I've never met nicer salespeople....

I have been a professional musician, band director, choir director, and church musician for many years and done business with a LOT of music stores. Merle's Music in Rolla, MO has a vibe and atmosphere that is second to none! Merle's has a down home, local business feel yet has better selection than many of the "big name", box stores. If Merle's doesn't have it, the staff can get it quick and match or better the other guys' prices. Seriously, Merle's has a great floor plan, huge selection, great lessons studio and the place is neat, tidy and well organized.
