It was a night like any other. After another long day of work on a Saturday it was time to run a few errands but not before stopping by Ollie's. Amy B. and I have been here before but it had been a few months and we were interested to see their new inventory.
Ollie's is a discount bargain store and their inventory changes often. That's part of the appeal for us. We can come back often and see something new everytime. As soon as we enter we head to the right towards the books. Based on your preferences for reading material you may find a wide selection of books available or you may not find any to suit your fancy. Not all books are truly discounted (some are at or near full retail price) but you are bound to find some titles that are a good bargain.
We continue to make our way through the isles and scan through the various items for sale. From kitchenware and home supplies to rugs, clothes and electronics there is a little bit of everything here. From name brands to off name brands the overall quality of the items is decent and as expected. One of the things I enjoy most about Ollie's is the "as seen on TV" items that are scattered throughout the store. I don't recall seeing a section dedicated to these types of items but I felt I was on a scavenger hunt because I'm a sucker for those things. Seriously..... how many people where amazed the first time they saw a Sham Wow, Turbo cooker, mighty putty, magic bullet or any other item marketed with horrible acting? Anyone remember the Ginsu knife? Now thats going back a few years!
The staff have always been nice and appear genuine when they ask if you need any help.
However, during this visit, after finding a few items we checkout and the lady that checked us out didn't seem as.... nice as the other staff. But she was, at the least, professional and checked us out. But maybe it was due to the time of day.... it was almost closing time. Anywhooo...
After making our way to the parking lot we noticed storm clouds moving in. We jumped into the truck, I turned the key.....and the truck did not start. :( After several futile attempts of turning the key, expecting a miracle. ... the truck did not start. It was time to call a tow.... ("wrecker" for the country folks - yup, I'm a yankee)
As I sat in my truck, waiting for a tow, I then realized that I will need to take all of my gear out of my truck and transfer it to a new vehicle. I needed a bag or something to hold my gear. "Now where would I find a bag?", I thought to myself..... Duh!
I walk back into Ollie's and I head towards the back of the store. Near the floor rugs and clothing there were wall racks with luggage, backpacks and bags. Score!
I found a Mossy Oak duffel/travel bag, that usually retails for ~$50-60, for $32! I work in construction and I needed a heavy duty bag for my gear. Finding a Mossy Oak bag for this amount was a god send. Sure enough, as I was walking back to the checkout isle, I got some of those, "Weren't you just here?" looks.
I take my new bag to my truck and load up some essential tools and gear.... Holy crap this bag carries a lot! Just as I was done loading my gear it starts to rain. Rather, it starts to storm and I'm greeted with a deluge. Fortunate for the grass and trees, rain. Unfortunate for me, no AC.
I quickly realized it was cooler to wait outside, under an awning, than inside the truck. The folks at Ollie's were kind enough to leave me be and not bug the creepy dude just standing outside their entrance with a bag full of "who knows what"! I ended up waiting about 2 hours for the tow but I was getting very hungry..... lucky for me there is a restaurant nearby. I got some food and came back to my waiting spot.... the kind people still didn't bother me with my bag of "what the what" and...
Read moreI had a terrible experience my girlfriend and I was walking around the store with our dog in the cart and continuously was being followed since we walked in until we left which was like a good hour to an hour and a half. Coming up from behind us “fixing” things and always staring at us being obvious about their actual motive. We are the only people who had help from another worker to get our stuff bagged up as they were trying to discreetly look in the cart. Also asked for our IDs to sign up for an Ollie’s membership ….. They said they needed to scan our ID…😑 that does not make sense because I’ve been around people who signup for Ollie’s membership and all they use is your email, phone number, name, and birthday. After everything was out of the cart and paid for the associate who kept trying to look and watch us while bagging our items had asked to see the dog. He looked inside of the mini dog pouch at the dog and complimented our dog and stopped acting weird the way him and his other associates was acting from the start. They all look goofy after seeing that we were not stealing anything. I’ve worked in retail for 3+ years I know how things go when someone is actually stealing and I know how it goes for the ones who are not stealing. I am heavily offended by the discrimination of my race because I tested it out to see if I was crazy about being followed and none of the workers followed anyone else or was around anyone else but us at every section we went. There was also no other black people in the store. I wanted to stay calm and not make a scene but this made me very upset because I can’t even shop in peace with the...
Read moreThis is not about the money but principle They would NOT honor there own coupon via email 10%. I can attest to you I just opened this email that was good until 3-31 with barcode.
The loss prevention manager was onsight and refused to honor a coupon that was never used as I dont come here often. Manager would not even come out of office to tell me face to face. I fell bad for the Cashiers who have to take the brunt of this.
Cashiers were friendly & I knew it wasn't their fault. I WILL NO LONGER USE THERE DATA COLLECTION rewards program. Sad to see this was a...
