If I could give them 0 stars, I would! Spirit claims they prioritize customer satisfaction but use their “policies” to justify stealing money from people. Last September had a flight to Nashville, which was CANCELLED by Spirit the day of the flight (only the flight there was cancelled). I had accommodations booked and tried to rebook with Spirit to make the trip still work, however that weekend also saw Tropical Storm Helene hit Tennessee HARD. Even more outrageously, the options to rebook the flight only offered flights with a layover at MCO (Orlando), which was also being DIRECTLY HIT BY THAT HURRICANE. We could not make the trip due to the damage in Gatlinburg and the danger of a layover in Orlando and so I tried to cancel with spirit, who refused to give me a refund, although there was a HURRICANE and a major disaster was declared, and they mentioned those dates as an exception to their policies as it was an act of god. I was manipulated into accepting the reservation credit as they continued to refuse a refund, and I reasonably thought I would be able to use the credit by next September. Now it is June 2025, and I have taken numerous trips since then, but have been unable to use the Spirit airlines credit as there have been no Spirit flights from Detroit to anywhere I’ve gone, and even the places I tried to invent a trip to, the flight times and logistics were outrageously unworkable. I tried to get to New York, Denver, and Nashville (among others) with no success, and now the credit is set to expire this fall, and I stand to loose my entire $320. I cannot just travel somewhere for no reason, and I requested a refund AGAIN, or even an extension of the reservation credit and was told no. If I knew I could’ve emailed myself a transcript of the conversation I had with “customer support” in September 2024, I would absolutely be taking Spirit to small claims court for their outrageous THEFT of my money. I paid for a service they were unable to fulfill, and I have to eat the cost of their borderline criminal policies and manipulation. STEER CLEAR!!

CHEAP FLIGHTS to Florida--Got mine for $58 rt. I haven't paid more than $90 rt in YEARS!! Jovial/humorus flight attendants, laid-back atmosphere, clean seats/windows, clean-smelling air. Seats a little cramped, but for the price and because I'm a "shorty", dealing with tight spaces is NO big deal to me! BE SURE TO FOLLOW THEIR MEASUREMENTS for PERSONAL ITEM(free)or YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY EXTRA. For my frequent travel to this destination(family) for $22.00 I PRIORITY MAILED(U.S. postal service/post office-vacuum bagged)6 dresses, 2 Capri, 1pr slax,2 shorts,5 shirts/tops,2pr sandals, undergarments, sox and personal care items to leave at my Florida destination for future stays; thus, avoiding huge baggage fees.

Mother nature brought us snow and the airport shut down. Spirit staff did decent, but the gate television showed incorrect info, confusing people. Also we boarded and deplaned 3xs before being completely cancelled, by which time it really seemed we could've left because it stopped snowing. Spirit was unable to handle rebooking/refunds online so everyone had to wait in line...hundreds of people. Thankfully I was durected to a short line for refunds only. The airline needs to rethink the rebooking process, maybe have more staff ready to handle this job in tgese situations. Spirit did send me $50 credit/pp to be used in next few months booking, which is appreciated.

Let me 1st start off with this review saying that I’ve flown Spirit Airlines more times than I can count in the last 2 years and I’ve never really had any problems other than the uncomfortable seats but hey for a cheap short flight that’s normally on time whatever it works. For these reasons I’ve highly recommend to friends family and coworkers from my personal experiences. Keep in mind I’m normally a Delta all the way kind of guy. Now let me get to the gritty so like I said I’ve flown a bunch of times with Spirit and usually will purchase the exit row because there is more room in a bigger guy and it’s never that bad like around 30 or 40 bucks to upgrade to that seat but every time I board the plane I walk past those big comfy seats right in the front and say dang that’s the seat I should be getting. I looked up the seat class and it’s basically Spirits version of 1st class you get WiFi, drinks, and snacks plus free luggage which in the back seats you pay 79 bucks a bag. So anyway it’s me and my wife’s 19th wedding anniversary and we were flying with Spirit I booked tickets for us to go on a last minute trip which was nice we needed it. Two days later Spirit sends me an email and asked if I would like to bid on a better seat and I thought you know what why not it’s our wedding anniversary let’s do it let’s go big and comfy and get the perks. So I didn’t just bid on the seats I over paid at Spirits suggested price so we would in fact get the seats and bam instantly it said we got the seats! At this point it raised our fare little over 50% but hey you only live once right? Anyway after arriving at the airport we went to check in and at the desk and the lady at the counter told us we had to pay for our luggage 3 bags mind you because I knew we were getting free luggage so why not. I asked why? we paid for their 1st class and she then told me no you bided on a seat only I’m like what this is crazy per the website it says you get that front seat you have free WiFi,drinks, snacks and luggage. She then told me we would get none of those perks because we only bided on the seat. Upset I paid for the bags because we had to go and didn’t want to miss our flight. We got on the plane and sat down the flight attendants were amazing very friendly so we asked them about the situation and they told us that wasn’t right and unfair we should be receiving all the benefits since we paid for those front seats and that we needed to call spirit customer service and they would make it right. So sitting there in these way over priced seats not getting any perks there was a kid a few rows back that asked hey I see that there are two open seats in the section we were sitting in can I upgrade to those seats. The flight attendant said sure let me check the price. My wife and I hear the flight attendant say you can for 75 bucks! What the hell! So not only did we way over pay and not get any perks some guy just upgraded to the same seats for nothing compared to what we spent. Definitely not happy about the situation but I told my wife hey the flight attendants said we just need to call spirit customer service and it will get straightened out. So after our flight I did just that called spirit customer service. I was not being rude or pushy in anyway with the representative on the phone but I tried explaining the situation more than a few times she didn’t speak English well which made our communication very tuff to the point I got frustrated and ended the call unresolved. So I called back again next day spoke to a different person he was nice but he then also tells me that sorry you only bided on the seat not the perks. I’m like what this is crazy no where on the email from spirit did it say I was only biding on a seat and not the perks with it or I wouldn’t have paid as much as I did for those seats. I would have just paid for the exit row as I always do. He apologized and said sorry there is nothing that can be done per spirit policy. Outrageous! This is how spirit treats their customers I won’t be flying...

Spiritairlines Just can’t get it right and Abused their powers of random acts of financial aggression against passengers again today and my 14 year old daughter was the victim!

My wife, daughter and I Left Out of Oakland CA airport on Spiritair flight #188 today July 9, 2019 at 6am. We arrived in Las Vegas where we were to deboard, wait and get back on the plane to Detroit on an 8:22 am flight (same flight) NK188. My daughter had her skateboard we bought her as a birthday present earlier on this trip. Unfortunately we were not given the option to leave the skateboard on the plane. We had the same seats on both flights. This was the 3rd flight on this long trip she would carry it on. There were no comments or questions on the previous flights.

In fact, we asked at the counter when checking in and were told it would not be a problem. They were right. We had no problem flying in to San Francisco earlier, or at the check in or gate in Oakland today. We didn’t try to hide anything. We were forthright and the skateboard was clearly present and in the open.

However, when attempting to board the connecting flight in Las Vegas, we were told it would be $65 and we would have to check it under the plane since the skateboard posed a risk management hazard. “Skateboards are not allowed on our planes. They pose a hazardous risk!”

I asked to speak to a supervisor who was finally at the 4th gate I was redirected to by the inept staff. She indicated the fee was only $55 and, yes, the skateboard needed to be checked under the plane since it posed a hazard and would not be allowed on the plane. We were never asked to put the skateboard in the “Bin of Magnitude” they didn’t see if it could have been folded in half to fit in the smallest no fee personal item.

I went back to our departure gate and grudgingly paid the $55. While preparing my phone to photograph the stern rule/fee wielding gate attendant, she informed me I was not allowed to take her photograph. She also blocked her name tag so I couldn’t notate who I was communicating with. I told her, per her request I would not photograph her, but that what happened in Vegas would NOT stay in Vegas. I told her “I know you are just towing the corporate line, but this is still a freaking joke, and likely the last time I will fly Spirit.”

She indicated that if I argued with her about photographing her she would call security on me (and that can’t be good). Furthermore, with seats that dont recline, a cross country flight in Spirit borders on unbearable, regardless of the supposed value.

After paying the fee we walked to the gate and were allowed to carry the skateboard onto the plane with no questions asked. The same ladies at the gate who stopped us from carrying it on because it posed an imminent hazard if carried on the plane now told us to have a nice flight and made No motions or requests to check the skateboard my daughter was carrying as luggage. The flight crew greeted us at the door to the plane and helped us find a spot to put the skateboard in the storage bin above our seats. We were ultimately given free reign to carry our “Hazardous” item onto the plane now that it was paid for.

Like trying to quit a bad habit, I have been done flying with Spirit before but their initial rates are so attractive it seems like such a value. The way they jack you and skew you and screw you with fees at every opportunity is how they get you and ultimately get you to pay near, at, or over par with other more reputable, comfortable and consistent airlines.

I’m so angry with how the thumb of authority treated us in such a duplicitous and condescending way. Spirit is so reliant on their low base price angle that they must wield an iron fist (when desired) in order for their team members to justify the inept manner in which they are forced to comply with their authoritarian superiors. It’s almost like the police officers who allow you to drive so many miles over the speed limit until they have to justify their jobs to...
