I rarely write reviews, but I was compelled to do so by the way I was treated. It is terrible that I have to write this, and I actually feel embarrassed to, as this has never happened to me in my 61 years of existence. My wife and I are not drinkers so we found this cool Kava bar and visited it twice a week, spending $40 a visit. The last time we went in was like any of the other times we had been there; she gets a comfy spot, and I order. This time, I was ordering, and the little girl taking my order leaned in to me and said that I was banned. I said What? For what? She proceeded to tell me that the last time I was in, I had left my cup down by Goldfields. I asked what day it was, and she said Saturday and I told her we were not there Saturday. She then takes a cup walks to the back of the store, writes my name on it, takes a picture of it, and shows me and I watched her take the picture. Apparently, they don't like 6' 4" older white men in their establishment. I was blown away by the obvious discrimination. I have never discriminated against anyone in my life so to have this happen to me was shocking. They lost two customers that day and more as I have told many people this story. Still can't believe a little teenage girl could do this. Her parents should be ashamed, and so should this establishment for allowing this to go on. I would fire her in a heartbeat if she...
Read moreIt's really difficult to explain Roots, as it's known to the regulars. It has enormous appeal to young people. It's a creative maelstrom for a lost generation. The certainty of the 1960's, of union-managed manufacturing businesses and high middle-class incomes has been replaced by low-paid part time jobs with no benefits, with all the old welll-paid jobs exported to other countries, destroying the fabric of American employment.
Roots is a place for people to come together in peace and love. The drink is kava, not alcohol, and the atmosphere is embracing and curious, driven by young people whose parents have been successful in a past era, but their parent's jobs won't be there for much longer, and their parents and the education system have no ideas to help their kids into new career paths because they don't even begin to understand what those jobs might be.
The crowd is nice. Kava tastes like a mud pie, but can be made more palatable with flavoring, or you can keep drinking it plain until you develop a tolerance for the flavor.
It's a very alternative crowd and they are very aware of their surroundings and the people around...
Read moreIm so excited they opened up this location located right in downtown Roseville right next to The Fig Tree Coffee, Art, & Music, this Kava bar is honestly great and one of the best I’ve been in so far. A beautiful and super chill spot to relax and have their different Kava varieties to try out from their High-Tides to their Cloudbreakers and you can always add a little bit of chaser to make it tastier. And if you wanted another alternative they also have their unique and tasty specialty drinks. The inside is just truly a beautiful layout, with a comfortable lounge area, pin-ball machine, beautiful artwork and design and i just love their bathroom so new and always smelling fresh and clean, and overall just spacious enough to enjoy your time. The staff are some of the most beautiful people I’ve met with their spirit and heart to serve and make sure you enjoy your time well while explaining everything to you in a thoughtful, helpful and informative way. They do their best to get to know you and treat you and everyone around to feel comfortable where you can enjoy your time peacefully. Truly a comfortable and amazing...
