VENDORS BEWARE: Disappointing Customer Service Despite Great Selection
The boutique selection was lovely, with great variety from different vendors. However, the customer service at checkout was incredibly rude and unprofessional—something boutique owners should be aware of, as these employees may not be the best stewards of their business.
My 13-year-old daughter and I entered the store at 7:15 PM on Sunday, with the posted hours clearly stating 10 AM - 8 PM. As we made our way through the first aisle, another customer walked in, only to be greeted with "We're about to close." She turned around and left without even browsing. This seemed odd, so I checked my watch—it was 7:30 PM. I asked the employee to confirm closing time to ensure the signage was correct, and they confirmed it was 8 PM.
We continued shopping, and my daughter selected three rings from a vendor table, which had clear signage explaining the checkout process—important for later. Another customer entered and was told the same thing: "We're about to close." She responded that she was just picking up a quick gift and came in briefly.
At 7:50 PM, we are at the checkout counter. My daughter placed her items on the counter, and the employee (M’Kaila, per the receipt, as they refused to provide their names) immediately sighed and said, "These rings are the worst to check out. They take forever." I acknowledged the checkout instructions on the vendor’s sign, but she doubled down, repeating, "They take forever, and we close in 9 minutes." My daughter, clearly uncomfortable, apologized, to which M’Kaila sarcastically responded, "Suuuuure, sureee."
At this point, I had had enough. I told them, "If you want to close at 7, your sign should say 7. Your hours say 8, and we're leaving before that." The second worker (red hair, glasses) then said, "Our sign really should say we close at 7:55 because that's when our boss trains us to close." I held up my phone—it was 7:52.
I asked for their names. They refused. I asked for a manager. The worker with red hair and glasses claimed to be the manager—the same person who had repeatedly rushed customers out. I asked for the owner’s contact. They refused to provide it.
I expressed my shock at how we were being treated—we were actively trying to buy items and were being rushed out as if we were an inconvenience. I can't imagine that the vendors, who depend on sales for their livelihood, would appreciate their potential customers being discouraged from shopping 30 minutes before close, let alone being shamed for checking out 10 minutes before closing time.
I would have preferred to reach out to a manager privately, but since I was denied that opportunity, I am sharing my experience here.
I would bet M'Kaila and her co-worker are paid hourly, meaning they take home a paycheck regardless of sales. Your vendors do...
Read moreMy daughters and I went on the opening day to The Painted Tree Boutiques - Round Rock and we were not disappointed! They had some refreshments and drinks because it was the grand opening, but I don't believe that will be the norm for them moving forward unless it's for another event. The space is clean, open, and large, the employees are friendly and helpful, and there is a good selection of unique vendors. I will say there are quite a few "booths" that are either not set up yet, or don't have a vendor for it yet. I was a bit surprised they opened the boutique without a lot of finished booths but it didn't ruin the experience, just makes me want to revisit when there are even more options... although I hope there will be more handmade options coming in! They had candles & clothing, woodwork & jewelry, kid items & dog items, artwork & home decor, pottery & hand painted glassware, organic home goods & personal care, holiday stuff and leather works, 3D printed objects & military products, eclectic & vintage collections, etc. It's a good place to shop local (which is the best way to shop!) and support small businesses at any time of the year. We will be...
