Sparetime Lanes — Local services in Roy

My wife and kids came here on Presidents day. It was crowded but not overly crowded. We got a lane right away with no wait. The lane worked fine with no malfunctions and we even had one bowler with the bumpers and we ran into no problems. There is a decent little cafe with pizza, hamburgers and so forth. They even have a nice little area with some tables to sit down and enjoy your food before or after a game or there are tables at the lane itself you can eat at. They have glow in the dark miniature golf also. We had a special needs child with us, so we couldn't play but I did go look at it and it looked pretty nice. They have wheelchair accessibility which is definitely nice since we had a stroller and wheelchair. The staff was very friendly and caring. They noticed we had a special needs child and came over and asked if he wanted to bowl and brought out a ramp to push the ball down and added him to the list of bowlers. It made it nice to know that they included him also. It would be a good place for a kids party or just to come with your family/ friends. We only bowled one game because of the kids but could have played a few more. We will probably go back when we don't have the kids and play golf and a couple games of bowling. We live in Roy so it made it extremely nice and convenient that it was right there. I have been many places and I would say their lanes are comparable to Boondocks or Rush Funplex. The prices are what you would expect from any bowling alley and they also have specials which they run all week. Check their site out for the special prices. They also have Galactic bowling on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm. All in all this is a place I would recommend for anyone who wants to bowl for a cheap price and maybe get in some miniature golfing or a beer or pizza. My family and I have been going to the Roy Sparetime for over 30 years. I grew up in Roy and graduated from Roy High. I have been going there every year for leagues and also for the high school team. I've seen every change and renovation, from when I was a kid in the old Daycare (Where galactic golf is now) to arcades, batting cages, owner changes, I was even there when they had a smoking room inside where you could smoke and watch for your turn through a big window.

This last year or so at Spare time has been an absolutely terrible experience. The Manager that replaced Carl is a drunk and would yell at customers and fellow bowlers every day. I caught him and a teammate of his cheating during leagues, and the ended up getting me trespassed from the entire property. They lied to the owners and said I was trying to fight all the employees?

The manager was fired this year (2025) for being caught stealing from the company and other accusations of him being drunk at work.

I found out and called to see if I could come back now that they have found out his character, but they responded by having Roy PD call me to legally trespass me for life..

The Owners are never there because they own multiple companies, including Davis Lanes in Layton.

I hope they can figure out their management problem The way the owners handled this, I would highly doubt it gets any better.

Very disappointed in the service I received today. I went with my family to spend quality time. The guy ended up charging us for 10 people when there was only 7 of us. He charged us for two games and for shoes for three people who didn’t exist. A total of $60 When we realized, I went to go talk to him and he refused to refund us because they have a “no refund” policy. I asked him to be reasonable and understand that it was a genuine miscommunication. He called the manager and came back to tell me he was going to give me $30 back and that we had to leave the place or he was going to call the police! We didn’t even get to finish bowling because they shut off both sections. ALL BECAUSE WE WERE OVERCHARED!!!! I had him call the manager so I could talk to her. From what I got from her is that he told her that apparently we had paid for 10 people and the 3 people didn’t show up and we wanted a refund. He tried to switch the story. He ruined our family day over some unreasonable money charged that he wanted to keep. They charged us $60 more for three people that never existed! Worst service and to top it off. For them to threaten us to call the cops because we needed to leave after being given $30 dollars back not even THE FULL AMOUNT THAT WE WERE OVER CHARGED! I don’t recommend this place at all!!
