I have been a Pet Supplies Plus customer for many, many years and have supported this store exclusively since moving to Oakland county in 2014. I had recently used the delivery service as I was not able to get to the store and need supplies. I had two deliveries on Oct 1 and Oct 22. Just recently I opened the bag from Oct 1, I found out I had supplies on hand I did not realize I had, so there was no need to open it at that time. When I opened it there were 3 bags of treats not included that I had ordered and was charged for. I was not able to bring up the order on the website so I called the store and spoke with Liz. Explained what happened, asked her to please look at the order to confirm that I had ordered them. She said yes, stated she needed to put me on hold as she did not know what she could do. She came back and said "unfortunately since you did not open the order until now there is nothing I can do". I said so I paid for these, do not have them and there is nothing you can do? She said no. I then called the corporate headquarters. There response was the store is independently owned so they are not able to do anything! REALLY! Now I know it is only 3 bags of treats, but it is the principle. 7 years of supporting a store and years of supporting Pet Supplies Plus before I moved to Oakland county and they are losing a customer over 3 bags of treats! What happened to retaining customers and loyalty to customers? Folks here is the difference; I ordered some items from Walmart, I normally do not order from them, to be delivered...one of the items the cap had been loosened and it spilled its contents into the bag with one other item. I called the store, saved the bag and the item and asked them what I should do. They did not dismiss me!!! They replaced the two items, they send someone the same day to deliver it to me (no charge) and included free samples in a little bag for me!!! THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I will return that loyalty to them now. As far as Pet Supplies Plus, I will drive the extra distance to PetSmart, Petco, Premier or Val's as I will never shop the chain again. Obviously Pet Supplies Plus will lose a LONG TIME customer over 3 bags of dog treats. And folks believe me, they do not care. Customer loyalty to Pet Supplies Plus means nothing anymore,...
Read moreThis Pet Supplies Plus is NOT corporate run and it shows! The husbandry of their fish, invertebrates, amphibians, and reptiles far exceeds that of any big box store. There are no rodents, mammals, or birds.
The hermit crabs had both salt & freshwater, a climbing wall, and fresh food. All of the reptile/ amphibian/ invert tanks had live potted plants, succulents, and natural substrates. All had noticeably clean water. The tanks were too small as they are the same style as all stores but they were well maintained and not overstocked (I could only find one creature per tank for the lizards and amphibians). The fish in tanks were all treated with medication upon receipt from the supplier and the tanks were immaculate.
And the biggest measure of a pet store-how they keep the bettas- was a pleasant surprise! They were still in containers, however they were at least twice the size of the average ones, probably about 8 inches long by 3-4 wide. None had any fin rot (not even the crown tail) and all had lights keeping them warm. They were bright tailed and active. I was told the water is changed every other day with primed water.
The betta display itself had all sorts of items front and center such as dial-a- treat, Indian almond leaves, betta log floats, Prime, etc. I didn't see a single bowl or cheap flake food on the display! The manager we spoke with was a passionate aquarist who loved discussing fish care and how meaningful their lives are to her. Clearly, she is doing her best to advocate for better fish-keeping.
Furthermore, the dog and cat supplies also don't disappoint! We bought several fresh baked goods for our dog and were happy to see that they weren't pushing things like rawhide up by the register. There was also a very modern (though small) self-serve dog wash station.
Overall this is a very clean store with the healthiest animals I've yet to see. Of course I always advocate for adopt- not shop wherever possible, but if one were wanting to shop for pets, this is the way to...
Read moreI normally love shopping at pet supplies plus, however I had a bad experience at this location. Over Memorial weekend I purchased a light up dog tag from the Traverse City spot and then soon realized I needed to return it because it wasn’t what I needed (motion activated). When I returned home to Royal Oak a few days later I brought in the item in the original packaging with the receipt. The manager, Anthony, refused to take my return even though I had all the necessary items. He stated he wouldn’t take it back because he didn’t carry it in his store. I told him I purchased it from a pet supplies plus and was not returning five hours up north anytime soon. I looked over the receipt and I looked over all the signs in the store and there was nothing that stated it needed to be returned to the original location. He continued to refuse to help me so I left. This has made me start shopping at Petsmart or Petco because you can return or exchange an item at any of their locations. I recommend not shopping at pet supplies plus because they will give you a hard time with items that are out of stock or they stopped carrying it at...
