I waited quite awhile to post this review after our experience, hoping that the Spa would reply to my e-mails, but it's been 7+ months and I haven't heard a peep from them.
I booked a spa trip for my partner and I's birthday. We're only a day apart, so we like to do things together to celebrate. I booked him a mani-pedi and myself a Hydrafacial. I did my research beforehand, because I have rosacea, so I knew what to talk to the esthetician about when I arrived.
First off, my partner and I were given different welcomes. He was immediately stuck in the nail salon, and wasn't shown the locker rooms or amenities, whereas I was given a full tour, robe and other normal spa experiences. I paid for a full mani-pedi experience because my partner likes to get his fingernails and toes painted. Without checking the booking, the technician gave him a men's treatment, with no polish or any of the other extra that come with the service I originally paid for.
Meanwhile during my facial, the tech struggled with getting the hydrafacial machine to work, which caused my facial to include an awkward five minutes where she was just hoovering my dry face until I mentioned I thought something was wrong. She was so flustered that shortly after that she snapped the eye cover elastic on my eye(so hard it watered and hurt) and then announced I was getting a red light treatment. When the light was over she was like "We're all done." and when I pointed out I didn't get the scalp massage described, she informed me the red light session had replaced that part of the service.
Overall the whole experience was chaotic, unprofessional and depressing. Particularly for the amount of money I spent. The front desk employee did give me a small discount, like 10% when I said something and encouraged me to contact the spa manager. I've done so twice, and heard nothing. I get everyone has bad days and makes mistakes, but to not answer my e-mails really shows how little they care for customers.
There are plenty of better spas in Tacoma, even go to...
Read moreThe process of booking online went great. I will advise those wanting to utilize the shower/sauna prior to a massage, to arrive 30 minutes early to appt. FYI, the sauna is infrared so when I arrived it wasn’t even hot, so you would need to get in there early to heat it up if it hasn’t been used. If not, you’ll have ample time to use it after. The atmosphere is beautiful, quiet, calm and most importantly clean. Lockers are spacious and robes and slippers provided are comfy. I will say the couples massage we had was “ok”. We’ve had better. We were both scheduled to have a deep tissue massage and are normally sore after we get those, but the ones we’ve had here at Spa Serein, were more “relaxing” than anything. It would have been nice if the therapist would have communicated if pressure was good or not, which neither did. They do offer dried fruit snacks and water before and/or after service. At the end gratuity’s is automatically added on to your bill, so no...
Read moreI’ve reached out 3 times to explain my disappointment with my experience and haven’t heard anything. I wanted to avoid a poor Google review but- after not being responsive- I don’t have a choice. I booked myself a birthday massage, a rare treat as a busy mom of 2. I splurged for deep tissue and it was incredibly disappointing. It was very mechanical, the therapist didn’t do any verbal check ins. When I requested firmer pressure she didn’t respond and didn’t change anything about her technique. I’m well aware I could have booked a deep tissue for a cheaper at a smaller place, but I really wanted the amenities and full spa experience. It was a complete waste of time and money and ended the day super sad about my birthday treat that I had been...
