At the end of the day its ice cream in a very popular place so what is there not to like. When I write reviews I normally rate product, service and restaurant/place condition so let me start with product:
Product: Ice cream is good, not something out of this world but good to enjoy the views and water. They do have limited flavors and not that many combinations. Their waffle cones are freshly made in front of you
Service: Short Version: Over all they have good service with one that I would have a sit down with:
Long Version: There is a store employee who I found out later is also some sort of management named Abel who in my opinion should not be in any sort of management as he lacks customer service skills and does not perform well under pressure. Thankfully there was another kind female employee who when I brought up my concern she explained the situation and helped, I didn't catch her name but I should so that I could praise her. The problem: There is normally a sample stand outside where customers can take a sample and know what to order inside. It so happened that on this day it was broken but no out of order sign was placed so people didn't know. Please note that I was not trying to example any ice cream (they didn't have the flavor I like and wasn't feeling like ice cream) but other people were. Ice cream social employee Abel comes over and slams the stands doors from people hands and goes on to check on some items. Personally I would have kindly explained to customer that they were not offering examples at that time and placed some simple Word Doc printed "Out of Order" sign so that people were aware rather then be rude. I could see that he was some what stressed and upset already however I believe this could have been handed differently. I attached a photo - man in pink is Abel and the lady on the left of Abel with the green shirt is the awesome employee that I hope she knows I appreciated her help, props to her.
Condition of Place: Its new and tables to sit so its good, its catchy and a good place to hang out. During the week it may be better to sit down as there are a lot less...
Read moreI have been to ice cream social three times. The first time was at the sixth avenue location with my four-year-old granddaughter who was thrilled at the prospect of getting an ice cream cone. The young women servers were sour in personality and unprofessional In dealing with both me and my granddaughter. I was extremely taken back by their disrespectful attitudes especially in dealing with a child. I would have said something at the time but I didn’t want to spoil my granddaughter‘s fun. The second time was in Ruston when it first opened, again the servers were almost put out that customers were in the store and they had to serve them. I vowed never to return to an ice cream social again but two weeks (and at least two years later ) ago after running stairs at STADIUM HIGH school my daughter-in-law and I decided to try the proctor location, to my amazement the young women servers there were equally as sour and disinterested in the customers, too busy talking amongst themselves to serve. Three locations, three strikes out. I can only attribute this to extremely poor training and a poor example of customer service coming from the top down. I don’t care how good a product is I will Never go there again but in actuality the product is not that great, Mediocre in quality and mundane flavors nothing really exciting even in the atmosphere. Just as a sidenote went running stairs this weekend asked if my training partners wanted to go out for ice cream and one of them said they’d love to anywhere but ice cream social. Apparently They have had the same experience every time they’ve been there as well instead we went to “Shake shake” which was fantastic! The woman server there was Sweet and you could tell she really enjoyed her job and customers.. Get it together ice cream social you are not better than the people you serve. They make you...
Read moreHigher price point ice cream joint for nothing special. Coming from up north, my experiences are reflected here, although it seems to be a very popular ice cream spot in Tacoma. They have a sample cart so that's cool. Unfortunately it seems like they just operate it whenever they feel like it as they "ran out" of samples with a full pint available and take a break from it often. Luckily, they don't have any flavors that are out of the box. Unfortunately, that's also a con because the flavors are all pretty standard.
Ice cream melts faster than usual, which may be a pro or con depending on your preference. My party's cones were dripping as we waited to pay after a larger party. The day wasn't particularly hot either especially while we were still indoors. Felt a bit off. Also got a pint to share and it was melting already after checking out. Anyways, pair this with a cone with a hole at the bottom, well you'd figure that's no fun. Ice cream melting and leaking so not only wasted, but also annoying.
I am not a fan of the chocolate chip options. Peanut butter chocolate chip is nice for the peanut butter ice cream but they use whole chocolate chips unlike the standard square-chip type you'd find in ice cream. These become solid in ice cream as you'd expect and become bothersome to eat like M&Ms in McFlurries, though if you like that, go for these options.
I will compliment the banana though, it doesn't taste artificial at all. Not sure if there's necessary a "roasted" taste. They ran out but luckily opted to try the pint, wasn't disappointed...
