If you like undercooked fish & bad service come here & have a ball! My husband and I do foodie content here in WA & we love to showcase small business, we are also fish and chips fans, we were so excited to try "what a catch". Everyone infront of us received prompt & polite service. When we walked up the cashier turned to the fry cook and started having regular conversation, turned to look at us , then continued to have regular conversation with the fry cook. He finally turns back to us and just stares. I politely say hi, and proceeded with my order. I'm met with an annoyed "is that all". Still being polite, I say yes thank you . We move on with the transaction and I'm told my name will be called when the order is ready. All I got was the 2pc cod & fries. Everyone in front of us got their order & the multiple people behind us got their order. I went to go check to see if I had been called and I'm told they are just now seeing my order and they are about to start it. I should have asked for a refund but I really wanted to try this place. I finally got my food and the fish was darker than what I'm used to. When I bit into the fish I got a mouth full of greasy fish and undercooked batter. The fries are OK, not good but OK. -0/10 overall . I've been places and had bad food but received decent service, if the service at what a catch had been better I wouldn't be writing this review. I will post a picture of my food, but keep in mind I do food content,So even when the food is bad I'll make it look good. Customer service is key. You can get away with almost anything if the service is on point. IF YOU WANT GOOD FISH AND CHIPS & FRIENDLY SERVICE GO TO PAYA THAI FISH AND CHIPS,located in Freighthouse in Tacoma WA.

This is revision to my first review, today while in the area I stopped and they were finally open! I have to say this was TOTALLY worth the wait! First, the young lady answered all my questions and was knowledgeable about the best choices for what I wanted. The menu was small but in a good way, they do fish, and they do chips, I saw a chowder and like one or two other things on the menu, GOOD, play to your strengths! The fish tasted fresh, and we watched them hand batter it, I went for the four piece because usually these places skimp a little, NOT HERE, I was stuffed after the second piece! I want to give a shout out to their fries too, these are exactly the kind of fries I love, and they are fresh and well seasoned. Last the vibe was Poppin, this whole little area reminding me of L.A. very vibrant and full of life, people hanging out, socializing. This is the kind of place I moved back to the city to be part of. I currently have "what a catch" tied with first place for my favorite fish and chips.

The public waterfront is such a great place to visit when the sun is setting. We were walking by the various restaurants, ready to order takeout when we were attracted to the friendly staff in the fish bar window. And the people being served before us looked happy so we joined the line. We ordered fish & chips plus a chowder and a berry basil lemonade. The fish and chips were absolutely delicious and we were very impressed by the eco-packaging!! The chowder was so rich & buttery it should be called a bisque. And the lemonade has so much basil flavor it kept tasting like pesto pizza…

Honestly the fish tasted really good. I’m not sure about the sanitation process but I had a big piece of kitchen cloth in fish. I took it out. No biggie. Although the halibut is tiny. Not worth price.

The older lady ringing up is really nice and had a smile on her face the whole time. So was the other employee with braided ponytail. There was one other employee who was at the stove frying- she was really rude giving many customers short snarky responses. The attitude was unnecessary. If you can’t handle a high stress job perhaps you should consider another place of employment. I asked for a small cup of tartar sauce (the container was broken). They took it to the back to fix it) I asked for a little bit while they fixed the container. She rudely replied that she would fix it and bring it out when ready. It wasn’t difficult to put a little hit in the cup!15min later still no tartar.

Honestly with the rudeness of the girl and the size of the fish I don’t think we’ll eat here again. I would recommend a friend to go to another restaurant in the area and get takeout if they wanted to eat outside. You’d get a...
