I’m always glad to hear the SPCO. I’ve been following them from the early days. I will always support them any way I can. They ebb and flow musically speaking. They have moments of sublime music making and moments that are in the shadow of their peaks. Inside information, the word is of political infighting. From the outside it seems easy to solve. Serve the music. No one is above that. Music is not a democracy. It is not even fair. One person makes the decisions. That’s obvious. The real question is where does the money go and who makes those decisions. Administration should listen and listen more. Artists should state their opinions but never be decisive, bitter and angry. We hear that. We love you. You enrich our lives and our community is number one on the cultural map because of you. Never forget how grateful we are to call you our own. You are the best on this side of the world. I stand by you now and always will. If you (the reader) have never heard this group live, you must do it today. You will know what love, music, art and human potential is once you have...
Read moreI am a somewhat regular attendee of SPCO concerts -- and a younger one at that. My experiences with audience members and the air of snootiness and discourtesy I've experienced on multiple occasions at the Ordway's Concert Hall has pretty much broken my enjoyment of this world class orchestra. This third time was at a concert on Sunday 9/17 and constituted irate parents who were upset when I asked their kids to please stop kicking my seat and was berated by their idiot helicopter parents who denied it. And the problem is, if you raise an issue then the rest of the passive-aggressive attendees give the "stare" as if my enjoyment of the concert is no better than theirs. So, I'm done with SPCO concerts there. Other venues, maybe. MPR listener, fine. But I partially blame your organization for eminating such arrogance and not addressing it with the audience. I will also not recommend you as a possible activity for my...
Read moreMy comments direct themselves to the fuund raising efforts of SPCO. Last week I received a solliciation at two minutes until 9 P.M. from a man who was insistent in talking with y wife. I told him she was not home. He then launched into her support of SPCOand asked me for my support. I told him I did not support SPCO. He then said he would call back sometime fr my wife. The next day at 6:20 P.M. he again called. I told him to take our number off the calling list, that the calls were intrusive and unwanted. He then raised his voice telling me I had asked him to call back at 6:30. When I informed him I did not ask him to return the call he became abusive. Certainly there is a problem with their fund raising policies. If I receive another call from SPCO I will seek a...
