Not kid friendly. Not disability friendly. No parking. Call before-hand about the menu if you have dietary restrictions because the online menu is a lie and there are not a lot of dietary restrictive options. Their vegan options are really quite pathetic if that's something you're looking for. Not wheelchair friendly at all, as half the floor is carpet and every doorway has a raised lip on the ground. And there's additional, unnecessary surcharges to every bill.
I know this place thinks its "fine dining" but it is absolutely not and I was shocked at the prices. $70 for 3 scallops on some rice? $80 for a single lobster tail and no sides? Insane. Absolutely not worth the prices. Especially since most things on the menu are things I could've easily made at home for WAY less money than what they were charging. You can buy "fresh" lobster tail at the grocery store deli for $10 a piece, why the heck would you come here and spend $80 on the SAME EXACT thing? Are we paying you $70 to throw a single thing in a boiling pot then take it out? Yuck. The quality wasn't any better than the grocery stores so I seriously wouldn't recommend splurging on anything "special" here
Ordered a lemonade and it was just MinuteMaid. Not sure what is "fine dining" about that, but ok
Im also not quite sure how its "fine dining" if I could EASILY make most menu items myself at home for cheaper but ok. No one at our table was impressed. Everyone thought the food was mediocre at best. The steak was tiny and the lobster didn't even come with anything other than butter in a cup. Which just screams CHEAP if you ask me.
The waitress spilled water all over our table everytime she filled a glass so we had to dine on sopping wet table linen the whole time
They sat us next to the servers station where some guy stood for almost the whole time we were there. Its kindof hard to enjoy your food when a 250lb sweating man is standing a foot away from you and literally will not leave. He wasn't dresses like a server but he wasn't a customer either. Made us extremely uncomfortable. And he was obviously in the way of servers trying to do their job but he still wouldn't move. So I assume he was a manager or something. But why stand there doing nothing? So unprofessional
We also couldn't hear each other at all because it was so loud in there. Everyone was screaming at each other. I will never come back here solely to prevent a migraine.
And for a place that touts itself as "fine dining" you would think that their online menu would at the very least match their in-restaurant menu but it absolutely does not. The prices in-restaurant are heftier than online. Thought I found the perfect entree only to come in to find it doesnt even exist and they dont even have the ingredients to make it. Terrible customer service.
The nicest part of the whole experience was the bathroom. In fact, that was the only part of this experience that felt like "fine dining." Eating here is like buying a designer bag just for the name: you do it just so you can say you did it, not because there's any actual quality to it
And don't even get me started on the fact that the restaurant is in a hotel but they lock the hotel doors and there's no signs or directions or anything online that tells you where in the building the restaurant is. So if youre not careful where you park, you could end up walking around outside for 20 minutes before you even see where you're supposed to go (which is not disability friendly AT ALL).
One of the most inconvenient and overpriced restaurants I've ever had the displeasure of dining at. Just go to a red lobster or an olive garden or an outback steakhouse. The quality will be the same and you wont be forced to eat on a sopping wet table with a large sweaty man hovering over you while you pay multiple times what you should...
Read moreMy wife and I and our friends went here for our dinner; we had been to this restaurant for drinks in the past. This dinner experience just blew the others places we went to in the past.. We were welcomed by Diane who was the Maitre d’at the host stand. We did not have to wait as we had reservations. It was a Saturday night, we were early 17:15 so they were not as busy as we saw later in the evening. We had a nice table for 4 by the window with a beautiful view of the Rice Park, covered by fresh snow. We started traditionally with a bottle of Lamarca Prosecco, nice, fresh italian sparkling wine. Charles was our waiter, super nice gentleman... very attentive and very calm. We love to spend our time to enjoy our friends talking, laughing enjoying our time. We had no pressure to order our food from Charles whatsoever, great job. This is exactly what we liked. Later it was very nice of the manager on duty Tara Balthazar to stop by and introduce herself to us. Thank you Tara, it was great to chat with you. Soon after we got a nice basket of assorted breads and crackers. That was followed by oysters plate for everyone….wow….was that good!!! Fantastic ! We loved it, oysters were delicious and they looked like were brought fresh from the ocean, great plate. Later our friend had a Mixed Green Salad,it was good, following with pepper crusted lamb -super nice.. Charles was cruising around us without any pressure to order our main dishes right the way, very nice, thank you again. Our friends ordered filet mignon and top sirloin ,medium well, both were juicy and well seasoned. Our friends loved the meat. The wine selection for them was this incredible Sangiovese from Luna Vineyards 2015 Napa Valley. I would recommend this wine, it is very special, you will not be disappointed. I love seafood so I decided to go with the panko encrusted lemon thyme rainbow trout with asparagus, it was nice size and it was really smooth, I loved it. My wife decided to order seafood stew dish, which had a lobster, shrimp, clams and freshly cut white fish in a saffron tomato broth with garlic crostini. It was good. She liked it. We had a 2018 Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough Oyster Bay New Zealand, it was an excellent choice for our seafood. Both wines were truly excellent. Later on we had this incredible opportunity to meet the executive Sous Chef Gheorghe Vatafu, very nice man. Chef Gheorge and his team deserve a big thank you from us. Great job guys ! Diane and Tara were periodically checking on us, very nice way to be sure your guests are happy. For dessert we had cappuccinos, espresso, a glass of Hennessy VS and a glass of Graham’s 20y old Tawny Port- fantastic as always. The temperature of my cappuccino was too cold, I asked Charles and got it fixed right the way. My additional comments: -the noise from the bar can be disturbing if you want to sit and talk with your friends- ask for the table away from the bar -you use ice cubes and wash clothes in the restroom- nice -you have correct temperature in your wine chiller, and you have chillers for the open bottles- super nice -all waiters, chefs, the host, helpers were dressed properly for the upper level restaurant parking is easy- valet -restaurant has a coat check -nice -please you need to have different glasses for the red and white wine...I don t understand why you don t Overall our experience at St.Paul Grill Restaurant was... I can easily say great ,we will be back. Thank you all for your hard work...
Read moreWe had been intending to go to the St Paul for quite a while, and unfortunately, we were disappointed. When we arrived, the hostess was very inconvenienced by having to seat us. She didn't even look at us, and didn't give us time to ask for a gluten free menu (which has many, many options!). Eventually, one of us went up and got it ourselves. Then, our server came and was even more disgruntled at us being there than the hostess! I should note, this was a Monday night and we had a reservation for 7:15 which is not exactly prime-time for dining.
Every interaction we had that night with our server from that point on was rushed, terse, and uncomfortable. Especially when she took our appetizer request (which was not prompted by her)...she bustled away from our table at light speed, forcing one of us to chase her down to indicate that we would need the dish gluten free (no, despite the special menus she didn't seem to notice or give us a split second to ask) to which she replied, "Oh, so that means you just want it without the bread then?" which, as someone who has severe reactions to gluten, is a serious red flag.
We received our cheese plate (yum) from an attendant and didn't see our server again for about a half an hour. At that point, one of our party went back to the hostess stand to inquire about the safety of eating there with a food allergy, given the server did not seem knowledgeable, or seem to even care. The chef came out to speak with us, and he did an amazing job making us feel comfortable. He was the shining moment of that meal. Seeing the chef at our table apparently reminded our server that we were there. She came, took our empty wine bottle (without asking if we'd like anything else! Come on, that's easy money!) and our meal order and sprinted off once again. When she returned with our order, one item was wrong, and all the dishes were just warm - as if they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. We mentioned the mistake, which upset the server causing her to snap at us, but thought better of mentioning the cool food at that point, it wasn't worth the harassment!
As far as menu items, I can highly recommend the Halibut (from the GF menu), but the other diners gave the filet a "so-so" review. Warm cheese plate starter was very enjoyable, too. I can't speak to the wine and bar selection, as we were not given the opportunity to enjoy more than the initial bottle and our waters.
TL;DR: Food was good, gluten free options were great, ambiance ok. If you're going to be dropping $400.00 on a meal, I would recommend going somewhere where you won't be made to feel terrible for...
