Zagara — Local services in Saint Petersburg

While I found the gelato to be a little sweeter than the gelato in Italy and the price a little high (which explains only 4 stars from me), I have to say I believe it’s the closest thing to Italian gelato that I have had in the U.S. My wife had the almond granita and felt the same, but we were both thrilled that it seems they are trying to bring in authentic ingredients which may explain the high cost. We love their other store, Mazzaro’s, so I’m sure we will continue to try the gelato and granita and hope that they don’t put in quite too much sugar. But honestly, there are so many people that seem to love it that my guess is they will keep the recipe the same. Either way, we will continue to support their efforts to bring a good gelato to America. By the way, their staff really is fantastic...

We discovered Zagara Gelato as the wonderful new addition to the Mazzaro's Italian Market family in our latest visit. We make it a point to always go to Mazzaro's whenever we are in St. Petersburg because frankly, nowhere else compares. We were warmly greeted by the owner and the gelatista and they made us feel so at home. Great and friendly service! The gelato was so delicious and we could confirm that it was freshly made. Perfetto! We highly recommend Zagara a must when you are craving gelato. We know we need to add this gelateria to our regular stops in...
