Newbury Comics — Local services in Salem

I walked in today on FaceTime with my friend, we weren’t being loud or destructive in any way, we where just talking as I showed him the vinyls because that’s just one of are common interests. As we were looking I asked one of the employees very politely when they restock. My exact words with a very friendly tone were “excuse me do you by chance know when the vinyls get restocked” and the lady replied “everyday” with an almost annoyed/depressed tone. But I didn’t think much of it and just said “oh ok thank you for letting me know I appreciate it”… No response. we kept looking and we found one of are favorite vinyls right now, Utopia by Travis Scott. I picked one up that I was intending to buy and then went back and placed it in the exact same spot and grabbed a new one due to the plastic wrap on the original one I grabbed to be slightly teared. After I picked up the new one I continued to view a few more vinyls before placing my hand holding the vinyl down. My arm was getting tired and I didn’t want to be holding the vinyl in the air the whole time while browsing, I put it down with the vinyl on the Front Row and never even took my hand off of it before the same employee (lady) that I was extremely polite about asking when restocks where Ripped it out of my hands without saying anything. She told me I’m not allowed to “hide the record” and “disorganize them” and when I told her I wasn’t trying to hide the vinyl she told me she just saw me do it with the same vinyl two seconds prior. Which is a total lie because all I did was put the original vinyl in the exact same spot I found it with the other utopia vinyls and grabbed one with un-damaged wrapping! And why would I try to hide 2 of the same vinyl? It makes no sense! Keep in mind when I put the vinyl down (which never even got fully placed down due to here yanking it out of my hands) it was in the front row of all the vinyls, (not even remotely hidden behind a single one) AND my hands where still on it! I never even placed it down and walked away, I never disorganized or hid ANYTHING! but I was so confused. Why would I hide 2 of the same vinyl? And if I Did WHY would I hide it in the FRONT ROW Not putting it behind other vinyls? I never even took my hands off of it’ this happened at around 6:00 - 6:30 PM 1/4/24. If they really care they can check the camera footage and see me place the original vinyl back where I got it, Picked up a new one, and never hide anything. And get the vinyl yanked out of my hands. Not even confronted for if I’m doing anything or asking for the vinyl. I get it. Works hard, but I’m 16 and have been working fast food for roughly a year and have never one treated someone like that. Treating customers with such disrespect and having worse manners then a 16 year old as a grown adult is crazy. I’ve had bad days at work and I’ve never once even thought of treating somebody how I was treated today. I’ve put 1000s of dollars into this one location. Vinyls, Cards, Funko pops, ive even brought multiple of my friends here. Guys and girls. But how I was treated today makes me never want to set foot in this store again. Being treated how I was even after being so polite to her. If the cameras have speakers you can hear the conversation. I was going to go up to the manager and say that there had been a misunderstanding and I just wanted to purchase a vinyl but I didn’t want to take the situation further then it had already gone because I get it, The woman has bills to pay, she was very clearly having a bad day, and maybe even has a family at home whom she needs to provide for. But treating a stranger like that. A loyal customer at that. Is absolutely not ok. So I’m not asking for anybody to be fired or punished, but what I will ask is Newbury Comics is PLEASE RE-TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES!! My husband and I are into different fandoms. This location of Newbury, always has a variety that fits not only ourselves but our kids and friends. It’s very easy to shop here. Sometimes the staff walking around the store to watch people look and little obvious and bored but everyone is super friendly. I really feel like I am becoming a frequent shopper since I’m in the store at least every other week because there’s always new books and merchandise coming in. Some aisles a little narrow for my stroller but not too difficult to navigate. Definitely worth...

I love newbury comics, usually, walked into this location, i am an openly LGBTQ person and can be safely assumed so by my appearance, i was just looking around and an employee in a reddish brown knee length dress, black bandana, and converse looking shoes with brown hair was very unsubtle with her profiling, visibly following me and my sister arounfd the store, violating personal space a couple times, i will not be returning and advise other LGBTQ/other miniorities to do tje same to avoid an uncomfortable, un inclusive, and unacceptable...
