I have two rings that needed to be sized down. Not just a little. One needed to go from a size 9 to 6.5 the other my wedding set from 8.5 to 6.25. The larger of the two is gold wire work and cannot be cut and soldered. The other, is a diamond bar set which is the most difficult of jewelry designs to make smaller. I took both rings to I have no idea how many jewelery stores. I went to designers, I went to Portland, every store in Keizer, Jackson's told me they don't really do that kind of work and if I bought a new ring I'd have to buy one of their diamonds to quote them "we don't really use other peoples diamonds in our rings". Every single jeweler told me they could not size down either ring. They would have to basically destroy the wire one (they would not put just a sizing bar on it), and the wedding set there was no way, I'd have to buy a whole new ring set. One store (Bouches) that said they couldn't size down the wedding set I was prepared to buy a whole new set from for my anniversary but they told me they couldn't use MY diamond I'd have to buy a new main center stone because mine was too small. You're kidding right? I have a jewelers degree from the GIA. I know how difficult it is to resize these rings, but it is possible, if you try. You also can use different head sizes to put my diamond in (it's not a tiny diamond). Anyhow, I went to Vernons and I was told EXACTLY what they could try and what might work and just in case it doesn't what the alternatives would be. It would take time which I was fine with. Two weeks after I dropped them off I got a call telling me the head on my engagement ring was absolutely warped and destroyed, not by them but by others who had attempted to work on it. I knew that, there were litterally holes in the gold on some of the prongs from where people not really knowing what they were doing tried to fix my ring. About a month after I dropped my rings off I got a call that they were ready. They're PERFECT. I cannot be more pleased. My wire ring has a sizing bar which blends in with the ring. Unless you flip it over and take it off you cannot see it the colors match perfectly. My ring isn't damaged at all. The wedding set is the right size. It had to be taken apart, a new head put on but everything was explained up front and it cost WAY less than I thought it would. And guess what, I have my original diamond in my ring. They're gorgeous, perfect and exactly what I wanted. Plus the new head is what is required for a princess cut stone, when it was orignally mounted whomever did it use the head for a round stone and modified it, that's why all the "fixes" by others. I will never go anywhere else for any of my jewelry...
Read moreIt was my good fortune to find Alan and his staff at Vernon Jewelers. He restored a precious family heirloom that had been horribly mishandled by another less-knowledgeable jeweler. My mother's 70 year old mid-century platinum wedding band, set with 29 matched diamonds had been badly damaged and twisted in removing it from her hand after an accident. The jeweler who 'repaired' it didn't realize that it is platinum, (unbelievable) and repaired it with white gold and a very heavy hand. Most of the diamonds were hidden under globs of white gold solder, and the band was reattached with the same. 2 years later it cracked in half, which sent me looking for a real certified goldsmith. Fortunately, I found Alan and his staff at Vernon Jewelers in Salem, Or. After a great deal of effort it was decided that the best 'repair' would be to just re-create it with a clone. I know this isn't for everybody, but the sentimentality and the provenance of the ring was not as strong as my desire to have the ring restored to it's original beauty. Well, it took some time, but was SO worth the wait. We are ecstatic with the ring today. It is exactly the ring that Dad purchased in 1950, strong, beautiful and flawless. No stress fractures, no failing points, exactly perfect.
There are not words to express my gratitude to Vernon Jewelers, I now have another 70 years of family tradition to pass along to my children and grandchildren.
Vernon Jewelers will be our family jeweler for generations to come.

Read moreI was recommended from friends and family to Vernon Jewelers here in Salem Oregon after stopping in several different shops in many different city's. My first appearance was what a beautiful and organized jewelry store with a family oriented atmosphere. I was right in everyway on my visit to Vernon Jewelers. I was greated with sincere and knowledgeable employees that helped me with my needs and more then I expected. I saw negative reviews online prior to visiting this shop and had my doubts but I was wrong indeed. To those who shop and visit places due to all positive reviews I recommend visiting those who have some negative reviews for yourself in person as I did. I learned allot about things I did not know and they took the time to assist me in everyway. If you are looking to buy jewelry or need your jewerly repaired this is the place to come. If you live outside of salem the travel is well worth it to have the jewelry you need...
