I was just here yesterday, my mother wanted to go here for her birthday dinner and we both never been there before. We were a table of four and it took them 15 minutes to come and ask for drinks but it was super slow for being a Friday at most there was 5 tables besides ours and that should’ve been the first red flag. Luckily we ordered our food when the waiter came and ask for drinks because I felt like it would’ve been another 20 minutes until they came back. We got the fried pickles and they were super salty but we didn’t want to be rude. My mother got the gumbo and it was decent( then again we’ve never had gumbo before)me and my fiancé got the chicken sandwich and it tasted exactly like a Popeyes chicken sandwich. The waiter never came back to ask how it was or anything, my little sister’s cheeseburger came with ranch (she doesn’t like ranch) so I kindly ask if she could have some ketchup instead the lady was super rude about it as if we were bothering her. Later we had to go up to the counter and ask for boxes and my mother barely touched her gumbo so we asked if the gumbo could go in the box without it leaking, she again had an attitude about it saying it’ll be fine and my fiancé asked the gentleman instead and he said it would leak and gave him the correct container for it. Overall I was super disappointed especially since we were all excited because of the reviews but their service was horrible I would’ve understood if they were busy but again it was very slow. I would not recommend this place not even for their food and especially...
Read moreTried this place out after a hip hop recital at the Elsinor. We were greeted warmly right when we walked in. Love the new clean simple design, the booths that sit into the wall double as artistic interior design. Talia brought us ice water right away, no straws, good job guys way to save the turtles! Gf Sampled a few ciders, loved them, I tried their lovely Chardonnay, nice and light. My starving son inhaled the double melt in your mouth cheeseburger, it must have been good because he ate it faster when I asked for a bite! #teens #eyeroll I had the new menu item: LOUISIANA POUTINE a mound of hand-cut fries and cheese curds smothered with a generous scoop of chicken & sausage gumbo. So delish! The gravy was dark brown like gravy chips (fries from back home in Ireland) every bite was delicious, perfect lil kick to it without being spicy. Gf had the Piggly Wiggly salad, pork belly, arugala, walnuts, blue cheese, radish and fig vinaigerette. Soooooo good! OMG! We cleaned our plates. Talia is an amazing friendly waitress. Perfect timing, answered all our questions and made some suggestions. We will definitely be back. Love the chill relaxed vibe. I am soooooo excited for Beignets.. may I recommend Lyle's Golden Syrup dipping sauce, yeah I know it's not traditional but it's super dank. Tastes like the top of a creme brulee only in cane syrup form, sweet burnt sugar type syrup. You can get it at World Market or I can hide some in my bag swag ;) Well done! #BringOnTheBeignets #newfavplace #salemoregon #foodporn #nomnomnom...
Read moreI was extremely excited to try their food but came away disappointed, ordered the fried gator, a hot bird, and sweet tea.
First the Good; the sweet tea was excellent, not too sweet, and exceptionally smooth, and very reminiscent of the south.
The Bad; the fried gator on the other hand was overcooked to the point of half the order being rubbery, the hot bird was nowhere near being hot, and the fries were ok. Overall the food was just an ok, but I would have only called it Louisiana inspired.
The Ugly; our group of five went for lunch and arrived a little early expecting a crowd, there were a total of nine people there (including us) and we saw four or five to go orders being packed up during our visit. So not busy by any stretch of the imagination. It took a half hour after my friends’ food was done before my food was delivered, our waiter did stop three times to say it was almost done but by the third time I was beginning to not believe him. Once it was finally delivered, I asked for a to go box right away since my friends were almost done. The waiter made no attempt to make things right, even just saying 'sorry, how about I take the sweet tea off the tab' would have gone a long way to make it good, but alas not a word.
The Wrap Up; Looking at the menu I see so much that I wanted to try but with this experience I'm not sure I will come back, Salem is starting to get so many food choices that a bad first experience can drive...
