Salt Strands — Local services in San Clemente

I really wanted to love Salt Strands. It’s so modern and well designed inside and the extension hair quality seemed really good. I went in asking for “long glamours looking hair.” My hair is already pretty long but I like it to the bottom of my back. Unfortunately, the stylist that was appointed to me told me she couldn’t give me the length I wanted because it would make this “shelf” with my natural hair and look bad. So I was charged for 22” extensions just to have them cut off to the same level my hair already was. Actually, we trimmed dead ends so my hair came out of the salon shorter than when I went in! It was really confusing because I’ve had super long extensions before, but they were tape ins. So I thought the technique they used limited what they could do. So I had this uncomfortably thick hair but no extra length. It was awful and I regret paying such an exorbitant amount for something I struggled to appreciate and felt talked into. I feel ripped off after consulting a different salon who guaranteed me new extensions with exactly the length and look I desire. Also, the stylist I was assigned to often spoke of really disturbing things. The last straw for me was when she felt it appropriate to share a story about a child being murdered, knowing I had a one of similar age. I cried during her story and she actually laughed at me, smirked, and said, “I guess I shouldn’t have told you that story.” It was so creepy I canceled future appointments. First off I love the whole vibe of Salt Strands. It’s aesthetically and visually so beautifully designed. I have been following my stylist Jill Cheel on social media for awhile and because of COVID-19 my stylist I was seeing decided to retire from hair. I took the plunge to schedule an appointment when Salt Strands was reopening and Jill got back to me so fast. She took the time to give me an over the phone consultation as to what my hair goals were and what I wanted to do and I sent over my inspro pics. For my first visit I came in for a cut and a color but was honest with my goals of wanting to look into the world of hair extensions- how I originally ended up following Jill and Val. I was so wowed with my cut and color experience I went for the extensions my second visit and now Jill is stuck with me forever! I live in Ventura county and drive out to San Clemente because of the experience and the quality of the service I receive here. Everyone is so kind and welcoming - they are truly providing a super laid back but such a posh experience. Everything is so customized and made special for each client. My friends compliment my hair so much and when I tell them that my hair has extensions they are always so blown away because of how seamlessly they blend in with my natural hair. I’ve been getting my hair done with Val for about two years now and followed her to Salt Strands. The moment you walk in you immediately feel the hospitality and warmth the girls at the salon exude. Chloe always greets with a warm smile, always offering to get you a water or make you a coffee. So they always ask what vibe you’re going for in regards to color and I never know (lol) but I trust Val to go above and beyond and she always has the best input to make you feel at ease. I have no clue what happens at the shampoo bowl but let me tell you, THATS WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS! Chloe gives the best scalp massages ever. Then back at the chair you’re getting your extensions put in, and they’re Val’s personal Salt Strands hairline. I have never had better extensions than these. They dry so quickly and hold any hairstyle for a long time. I can’t rave about them enough. And the fact that they are seamless with my hair color says a lot about the quality of her hairline! Getting my hair done here is my favorite day of the month because it’s like going out with your girlfriends for a few hours, and leaving with gorgeous hair.
