We've stayed at the Mission Bay Motel many a time. We have relatives in Pacific Beach, but there is not enough room to stay with them, and so we always check in here.||It's less then five minutes walk to the beach, and surrounded by various restaurants and shops all within walking distance. It has a traditional feel to it, reminds me of the 50s or 60s (not that I was alive then). It's all wooden boards and creaky stairs, but in a good way. The rooms are basic, and not huge, but there's space enough. They have always been clean, though could do with some updating. There is free car-parking, though I think there are more rooms than spaces, so it could get full. It can occasionally get noisy, as Pacific Beach is becoming a party town, and if it's a party weekend or spring break, etc, there can be rowdy crowds, but that's the area more than the motel specifically. Our last stay we used the pool for the first time. I'd never fancied it before as it's surrounded by the car park and never looked appealing. However, once inside the pool area, you actually can't see the cars and don't notice them, so I guess I've missed out over the years.||For being right on the beach in a San Diego, I doubt you can get better...
Read moreSure, it is cheap for the area. But you get what you pay for, we all had cold showers. Mine twice in a row would cut out from hot to cold after about 7 minutes of showering. When we called down they were unhelpful, and just told us to turn it on and wait. Everyone in my family had cold showers. Also, don't plan on sleeping much since there is no air conditioning and keeping the window open with the provided fan welcomes in all the road noise with all the drunks from the dozens of bars in the immediate vicinity. Not a child friendly situation. And lastly, pray there isn't a fire! Our room had zero smoke detectors, and had one non-functioning carbon monoxide detector with standard Duracells in it that were dead. The other detectors were removed. Oh and all the pillows were lumpy and terrible. So yep it's cheap, but beware, it's less than expected, even at that...
Read moreFirst off I didn't even want to put one star I couldn't publish this review without it, my low rating isn't because of the room its because of the front desk clerk (only) that was working on Aug 3,2015 @ 7pm. I wanted to reserve a certain room 2 months in advance we stayed in before it had a king sized bed and kitchenette, the clerk claimed he couldn't guarantee me a room not even if I paid rite now...wow thats a first...he also claimed I couldn't have a king sized bed with a kitchenette enless I was handicapped, I became irritated and said "If you are unable to accommodate me I'll have to go elsewhere" he seemed fine with that..not to mention he was rude, ignorant, and not very customer friendly if you ask me.... I'm driving there tomorrow morning to talk to someone that matters to inform them about their ''employee of the month''.. Happy...
